Amisulpride (50 mg/d) raised my prolactin levels to more than 1600 mIUL/L. Normal levels are less than 580 mIU/L for women, and less than 450 mIU/L for men.
I then decided to try if cabergoline (Dostinex, Cabaser) could normalize the prolactin levels. After taking 0.5 mg for about 3 months, the prolactin levels were only slightly lower (about 1100 mIU/L). So I decided to give it a last chance by increasing the dosage to 2 mg, and at the same time reducing my amisulpride dosage to 25 mg. A month later, prolactin levels were dramatically reduced and were mesasured to be less than 200 mIU/L. Unfortunately, however, I'm unable to tell if this was caused by increasing the cabergoline dosage or reducing the amisulpride dosage.

Thanks for your very interesting report.
Hyperprolactinaemia seems to be the killer side-effect of Amisulpride. It seems to be the primary reason for discontinuation of Amisulpride. If it were not for this side-effect, Amisulpride would be a great antidepressant for many people (especially those suffering from dysthymia).
So how are you doing on 25 mg Amisulpride and 2 mg Cabergoline? Is this combination effective in treating your condition? Perhaps you should try raising your Amisulpride dosage back to 50 mg and then check that your prolactin level is still in the normal range.
Good luck.

25 mg amisulpride is less effective than 50 mg for my condition (which is psychotic depression.) The most effective was 100 mg, but unfortunately I experienced very unpleasant and bizarre dreams at that dosage.
I will now either try 50 mg + 2 mg cabergoline for a couple of months, or switch to Abilify.

Forgot to mention that the dosage of cabergoline was 2 mg *twice weekly*.

What are the side effects of cabergoline?
I've been on amisulpride and am familiar with it. I liked it a lot, except for devastating sexual dysfunction from hyperprolactin.
I am curious what cabergoline side effects are?

I've read you can do that with Hydergine in doses of at least 9mg/d.

Seems like cabergoline have less side effects than bromocriptine. Personally I didn't notice any nausea when taking it (it might have caused me to get acne, though.)

No nasal stuffiness with cabergoline as opposed to bromocriptine.
Is that what you meant by side effects, flip flop? I didn't notice nausea with either, nor acne.
My cabergoline came from India which had me a bit worried because I expected more from it.

I've been taking Amisulpride for about five months now. My first prolactin test was apparently normal; I await the next one. I do have sexual dysfunction (female) in the form of inorgasmia. Unfortunate.
But the Amisulpride really saved the day with my Mixed Episode after coming off lithium. It was amazing how it worked on my depressive symptoms, so I'm putting up with that for now.
My question--are you all from the UK? Is cabergoline prescribed in the UK regularly? Is it expensive or available? Is Parlodel safe and effective? Thank you. ramsea
