Are there any success stories of people taking effexor? My doctr just started me on this and it seems all I find are people getting off the drug with bad withdrawl symptons.

I had a pretty decent five years on it before I went off (without any withdrawal problems). When I was on it I did have some side effects--night sweats, increased sex drive with anorgasmia (fun, right?)--but those seemed relatively minor. I would have gotten back on it but I seem to be getting tachycardia on it now... It's not the worst med in the world. You may find that it works really well for you.

I had great success on it for 2+ years. I didn't have discontinuation symptoms because i weaned and added Lexapro before I was done with the Effexor. If it would have kept working, I wouls still be on it. If Lex poops out on me, I will try Effexor again.
Good luck,
Colleen

Effexor worked very well for my anxiety/depresssion. It lasted about a year before it pooped out. The withdrawl symptoms weren't bad for me. Just some zappy feelings in my head, more interesting than anything.
best wishes,

Hi Drew~
Aside from the annoying sexual problem that I posted about recently...I LOVE Effexor. I've been on it for 2 years, and I feel wonderful..very minimal weight gain. Just watch your food intake. I definately can't eat tons like I used to, and not gain weight anymore..but I survive with a handful of M&Ms ..instead of the whole bag...
Seriously..it brought me out of SUCH a black hole of depression...I do also take Xanax, because I had panic attacks along with the depression, due to traumatic events that occured.
When I went in for the first time to see my Psych. I came in crying, holding a picture of myself...when I had been happy. I told him that I wanted to be that girl again...that I wanted to just go back...He told me that I couldn't go back in time, but he would help me get that girl back from the picture...and that I was going to be just as happy, or more so..if I gave him a chance...I put my trust in this man...and I now consider him SOOOO much more than my Psych. He literally saved me, and brought back that smiling girl from the picture.
So, yes Drew...I am just one of.. I am sure MANY, Effexor success stories out there.
Best wishes to you,
Faith~
