I started to gain weight on Lexapro, probably about 5-8 lbs. It made me crave sweets and carbs, which tend to make me gain weight. It also made me constipated, which I think was part of the problem too.
Recently, I broke my leg and I am in a cast. I was scared to death about not being able to work out and gaining weight on the medicine, but so far (2 weeks) it hasn't happened.
You need to focus on eating well and resist the temptation to eat junk or useless calories. Luckily, when I don't work out I just don't get hungry, so I am doing better than I thought I would.
I heard Prozac was good for anorexics. I think the new meds like Lex, Celexa and Effexor have a sedating effect and tend to slow down the metabolism.
I guess you have to see how it effects you, cause reading this board you can see it is different for everyone.
Good luck, and if you feel you are gaining weight on the medicine, ask to switch to a diff. one!

Every A.D. I've taken has made me gain, including Lexapro. My Doc said Lex wasn't supposed to have that effect, but... I can say one thing, for me personally, Lexapro made me feel better than any other AD I have taken. I felt great! Except for the gaining weight. Now I'm trying (2 weeks now), Effexor. I'll probably be back on the Lexapro later if this doesn't work. Life is short, I want to feel great! If I have to be overweight to feel great, I guess I'll have to sacrifice that somewhat ya know? I'm lucky to have a loving husband who loves me anyway. Hmmmmmm. Good Luck!!!

A lot of people seem to gain weight...am I the exception??? I have lost almost 10 pounds since starting Lex. Have been taking almost 3 months now. I too have had incredible carb cravings, but my appetite seems less, I get full more quickly and can't seem to eat as much as I used to. Good luck to us all!!!

I have been takeing Celexa and lexapro for about 7 years. I am two pounds lighter than when I started. I can create anxiety at first and comfort food is a temptation. I dont believe that it changed my metabolism. Just keep a healthy life. The anxiety goes away after a few months.

I have gained well over 20 pounds, but it is working well. did you ever consider that anxiety was causing weight loss or low weight. I have had to severely curtail my eating even though I ma 6"1. I used to be 190 lbs. I now fight to stay at 215, but I would rather fight the fork than be the way i was.
