Parnate + Lamictal +...

Posted by fires on June 12, 2006, at 21:07:09

Klonopin +low dose Mirapex (0.125mg).

I'm adding Parnate (at 30 mg now) to the above. I'm extremely tired and often sleepy during the day. I never experienced that when on Parnate alone.

I think my mood would be quite good without the sleepiness/tiredness during the day.

Can Parnate somehow make Lamictal (300 mg) and/or Klonopin (.5 mg x 2 day)too sedating? Any guesses? My pdoc will likely have me reduce one of the meds and see what happens. Will do it myself, starting with Klonopin, unless someone has a better idea.(I used 2 to 3 mg of Klonopin for sleep when on 60 mg of Parnate by itself).

Ideas?

PS- I thought I posted a similar message within the past few days, but can't find it. Forgive me if this is the 2nd post.

Parnate seems to change the way I respond to meds. I'm suddenly more responsive to Ambien, and less responsive to sedating antihistamines. It's very weird. Caffeine does not really keep me up through the Parnate sedation, but it's probably not a great idea either. I tried Provigil a few times, it's helpful but I can still nap on it. I just am to the point where I can't reliably predict anymore if the sedation will be potentiated or not. Luckily the sedation is less than it was at the start. Quite livable now.

I'm thinking of Lamictal or Lithium to go with the Parnate (40mg). Not sure yet, but the doc appointment is tomorrow so we'll see.

Thats alot of klonopin too add just to get to sleep. That is enough to probably make you tired throughout the day. I also take parnate and I also take klonopin to get to sleep, but I almost never take more than .5 klonopin per night. It works sometimes, but alot of nights I will be restless. I just don't want to add more klonopin. I think if I took the amount that you take I would sleep like a baby, but I think I would also feel it throughout the day. just a thought-joe

Parnate has been killing me latly with the sedation, alone its worse, sometimes taking klonopin or anything is small doses helps,i just wait out a little extra sedation and i have some energy, however if i take simply parnate all day,i will be totaly weak and fatigued until appox midnight which is when the insomnia kicks in,obviously this is a reversal of what i need and being tired all day and awake at night is not ideal.

Willee why not reverse the times you take the meds . That way you maybe can sleep when you should and be awake when you should be. Love Phillipa

I took Parnate, with Klonopin for sleep, for 14 years. Parnate never caused me daytime problems. The Klonopin didn't either. (Tegretol did, and it also caused tooth grinding!)

I'm thinking that Klonopin + Lamictal may be the problem. Today I took only .25 mg in the AM, rather than .5 mg. I plan to cut back to no Klonopin in AM and .5 mg at bedtime.

Thanks
