Sure it can do that. It can do that at lower doses, too.
Did you just recently do a dose increase?

I'm going to take the easy way out and say that almost anything is possible when it comes to antidepressants. I don't think Paxil is as likely to produce anxiety as Prozac or Lexapro, but it is possible. The question is, will it disappear? I guess the only way to know is to try it. However, if the anxiety persists for two weeks, I doubt it would resolve on its own. I guess your decision will depend, in part, upon what condition you are treating and what drugs you have tried thusfar. For me, Lexapro produced anxiety during the second week of treatment. The anxiety disappeared during the third week.
If you decide it is worth continuing the trial of Paxil, you might consider using an anxiolytic temporarily.

I took Paxil 20mg for a couple weeks and had an increase in anxiety. PA suggested I goup to 40mg, which I did and then had horrible anxiety, shakes, sick,... It was awful! I just could not ride it out (and I am a pretty determined person), so he weaned me off the stuff and viola, anxiety gone. PA said that Paxil can cause a large increae in anxiety in about 10% of those who use it. Just his thoughts.

PS: I had to use Lorazepam to cope with the anxiety AND the W/D off Paxil

indeed he is! I REALLY feel blessed of God that I have the PA that I have, Especially as I listen to the options out there. May we ALL find one! I say Keep looking until you do. at the beginning I actually sat on his table and told him I was NOT leaving until I felt we understood each other and had a plan that would make a difference. he said "ok" and sat there with me a long time and has been pretty great since then. Thank God!!!!

Unfortunately, I found Lexapro to be ineffective. I didn't respond to it at all.

Its possible -- I dont know how long you have been on the medication and whether its adjusted to your system or not -- thats one place where it can give you more anxiety. Usually when a patient is taking an SSRI antidepressant for an anxiolytic use, something like Klonopin is added temporarily to adjust to it. If you are feeling this long term, it may be too high a dose for you.
My experience since I tend to be stuck in the middle of the anxiety/depression spectrum is that an SSRI is going to treat anxiety or depression, but not both, with the possible exception of the most sedating, Luvox.

Paxil gave me anxiety. It also gave me a "smouldering", and lingering sence of fear, that lasted as long as I took it.

Paxil was the first SSRI that I was prescribed. I had just moved to the midwest from the Bay area and was in a new job with a much more repressed culture. The Paxil helped a tad with depression but its side effects included, high anxiety, no sex possible, and insomnia. When celexa came out I had no problem with it and am now taking Lex which has no side effects after two weeks. So to answer your question, yes it can, depends on the individual. This qualifier applies to all meds discussed here.
