I am concerned about some symptoms that I developed right before I went on vacation and while I was away and not able to even call my doctor via cell phone. I was in a remote area. Anyway, even before I left, I started to feel confused and forgetful and would start a sentence and could not finish it right away. It would be in my head, but I could not get it out through my mouth all at once. My psychiatrist was aware of this, but I was only on .25 mg of Risperidone, prescribed in combination with Parnate that I have been taking for some time. I have been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, Recurrent, Severe without Psychotic features. Anyway, after I upped the dose as instructed, I got worse but was not aware of this entirely. My husband said I was slurring my speech and would start a sentence and not finish it. I had no awareness of this. I was aware of feeling very confused and disoriented and dizzy. My muscles were aching, and My bp seemed to be up and down. I was nauseous and feverish and started vomiting with diarhea even after I reduced the dose in half and then stopped taking it after two days at half dose. I was not sure I could just stop it. Anyway, I have been off of the Risperidone completely now for three and one-half days and still feel a bit confused and dizzy. My muscles are still sore, but I am not running a fever anymore. Oddly, I have, however, developed a urinary tract infection. I can tell. I am not sure what else to do and hope someone can help in this regard. Thanks in advance

>Thanks for your response. I did finally get ahold of my doctor, and he thinks the neurological/mental symptoms were due to the risperidone. I think, and he agrees that the gastrointestinal symptoms and fluctuating bp are due to what seems to have been food poisoning I incurred last Monday night after eating something that caused me to have vomiting, etc. all night. I take bp medication. I think I just got my body out of wack from vomiting and diahrehea all night. The muscle rigidity, likely due to the risperidone as well. We have had trouble finding medication I can take as I keep having allergic reactions and/or bad side effects from the newer medications.

Thanks for all who responded. I saw my psychiatrist today, and he had me go over all of the symptoms and when they occured, some more than I mentioned; some my husband told me about because I don't remember them. He said he looked it up twice and although there is no indication of a cited report, he thinks I had a serotonin syndrome reaction and told me it was good I got off of the Risperidone. He also told me it may be another week before I am back to normal and don't have some of the residual extrapyramidal symptoms and confusion (now fairly mild).
This is the end of the thread.
