Hi-
I recently started on dexedrine spansules. I've read that with amphetamines, acid decreases absorption(both in stomach and intestine) while alkaline increases it.
I am also taking vitamin C (acidic) and magnesium (alkaline) supplements.
How far apart must these supplements be taken from the time dexedrine is taken?Suppose dexedrine is still being absorbed say at 6pm (pill is probably still in the intestine somewhere). Will taking my magnesium supplement then force it to stay in the system longer??
Please help!

From what I understand citrus is a definate no no taken with amphetamines (and ritalin)
I take my V-c at night. From trial and error I do know that citric acid especially seems to reduce effectiveness and duration of my stims.
Taking an anti acid or sodium bicarb definately increase strength and possible duration of stims for me.
Here is what I am cofused about.
If acidity/alkalinity of the body effect the speed of excretion of amphetimines why then is v-c contraindicated? Or is it?
I have been told many times no C with stims. After the med leaves the stomach is it ok? I thought it actually has and alkalizing effect on the system.
?????
Anyways. I just take all my v-c at night just in case.Peace,

This is how I understand it....
Affects of amphetamines are dependent on pH of stomach/intestinal tract and urine.
(Acidic=pH<7; alkaline/basic=pH>7)Stomach:
-Absorption is increased the higher/more alkaline the pH, and is decreased the lower/more acidic the pH.
Urine:
-Excretion is increased the lower/more acidic the pH, and is decreased the higher/more alkaline the pH.So, in regards to affects of amphetamines, foods/drinks that affect stomach and urinary pH:
acidic--> lesser effects
basic --> greater effectsAcidic agents include citrus, fruits and their juices, citric acid, and VITAMIN C. That is why Vit C is contraindicated, like you mentioned. Vit C in its natural form (l-ascorbic acid) is very acidic, definitely affects urinary pH.
Alkaline agents include many antacids, including baking soda, etc.I may be wrong, but this amphetamine pH-dependency does not apply to methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta) the same way. Its absorption effects have more to do with food ingestion, supposedly affecting only the absorption rate, not the total amount absorbed.

ok-so V-C does acidify your system?
I have been seeing alot of info lately about alkalinity being good and acidity of the body being unhealthy and related to eating and drinking all the stuff that we have already been told was bad for us. Sugar, soda, highly processed empty carb ect. And that many fruits and vegs aid in alkalinizing the system even though many of the best of these are high in v-c.
I also thought that V-C, although counter-intuitive, will raise PH.This is not a hugely important point-just a question that I have.
I avoid all V-c throughout the day and I don't think that is healthy. I'm sure I rarely manage to get enough at night. Sometimes I eat a little fruit and then take a little baking soda before meds. I have to take my stims 3-4 times daily due to small amounts with short durations which works best for me.

Then u ave to remedy tour condition, soon.
Are you being treated for ADD/HD?
Well then DextroAmphetamine is the tried, and true treatment for this disorder.

I'm prescribed 5mg (2-3 capsules per day). It's not really for ADD, but treatment resistant depression and negative obsessiveness.
To my surprise, amphetamines (started with Adderall) was the only thing that knocked out the obsessive thoughts and kept my mood more even.I'm liking the Dexedrine more because my blood pressure was way higher on adderall.
Dexedrine feels just like adderall did minus the nastiness (occasional jitteriness, heart pounding and racing like mad)> Hi ya!
