A couple of days ago I posted about how Zoloft was causing me extreme irritability, memory and cognitve problems, but late last night I had really scary thoughts - couldn't get to sleep, and had trouble closing my eyes because it was so scary. I was in a panic because I couldn't tell if they were real or not.
Does this happen often? If it happens with one SSRI, will it happen with others? I had similar cognitive problems with Lexapro. I'm really sensitive to meds, and scared to death to try anything else! My husband is pretty freaked out too.

I've tried Wellbutrin, Lexapro, and Zoloft - none good.

I'm really sensitive to meds, too. I find I have to start very low and build up slowly. Maybe decrease the Zoloft dose for a couple of weeks? In answer to your question about do all SSRI's have the same, pardon the expression, "feeling" (as in "bad feeling")-no. I felt like I was falling backwards all day on Zoloft, but nothing like that on Paxil or Prozac. I was afraid of Prozac because I thought it would be too stimulating (with panic disorder, you really don't need any more stimulation than you have already!:>})-not at all.

Thanks Bassman,
Prozac was okay for you? I have anxiety, not as often panic - last night maybe more panic. My T recommended I might try prozac, but my husband is going out of town, so I'm afraid to stay on the Zoloft, and I'm afraid to try anything new. If I got this way while he was out of town, I don't know what I'd do! OMG! I didn't even think of that!
Thanks again,
fw

Sounds like maybe you need a benzo (klonopin, Ativan, Xanax) in the short term anyway to feel less anxious with the New Med. That's really sort of standard procedure these days for anxiety and SSRI's. That would also help if your husband is away or any other situation in which you think you might be very fearful and not have much emotional support. My point with Prozac is that with anxiety you never know-Rrozac is calming to me, although it has the reputation of being stimulating. When it comes to meds, it's an Easter Egg Hunt, fw...don't get discouraged if the first or second one doesn't work. Please think about the benzo in the short term, too. SSRI's are scary the first time around.

In your shoes I would definitely lower the dose. You can cut or split the pills to any size you want. I would also call the doctor and ask for something to relax, like maybe xanax or klonopin. I would also consider switching to a different med. But no matter what, you may need a life preserver on board, which is something to relax.

Thanks Bassman, Phillipa, and Blueberry,
Never thought to take a xanax - thanks.
I was so freaked out and my head felt so "off". I was so afraid the thoughts would get more out of control, and I'd do something I'd be horrified about. Scary what a strong effect they can have.fw
