While it's impossible to really know, I'm curious if anyone has any rough estimates.

United States, Canada, UK, other...?

Children, adults, total...?

Well if you want to believe an HMO...

http://www.wellmark.com/health_improvement/reports/antidepressants/antidepressant_findings.htm

sounds about 10% for antidepressant usages.

There really are no shiny happy people, and if they are, they're hiding something. There's a stigma against mental illness and people think that everyone in the office is cheery, but if you look beyond it, I'm sure there's plenty a secret Prozac dose, a domestic dispute, alcoholism, etc, all to get through the days. No... I'm not trying to be too cynical but sometimes one gets stuck in thinking that everyone is just a perfect type A when they just have a different coping mechanism.

But back to bits of useless trivia, my unrelated question has always been, how many people are born on each day of the year by percentage?

Sounds reasonable. People may also be more likely to self-pay for antidepressants than other meds, so the HMO figures could possibly be lower than actual. I'm wondering if adding in all other psych meds that around 20% or more of Americans take a psychotropic.

I don't doubt this a bit.

I wouldn't have a clue, but I do know these facts:

1. For the first time in human history the world population quadrupled during the 20th century.

2. The world population hit 6 billion in 1999. It is now 6.5 billion and is projected to reach 7 billion in 2013.
