EMSAM updates from anyone?

Posted by UgottaHaveHOPE on May 20, 2006, at 23:13:25

I check this board all the time for updates. I don't know whether or not I will ever take this med, but it does give me HOPE. Please state how long you have been on the Emsam, what dose you take, and how you feel? Thanks

I'm on my second day.

So far, my mood seems a little better. I wouldn't bet the farm on it, but it's possible.

I also feel more tired than usual--a side-effect for me with parnate--but, again, it's too early to tell.

If it doesn't get worse (in terms of tiredness), I'm cautiously optimistic.

My blood pressure was a high this afternoon (128/74), and I'm not sure why. I'll have to monitor my medications more carefully. I'm thinking possibly soma--but I hardly had any. I had problems with ultram, which are unusual, but can happen.

Could also be an adjustment phenomenon. My blood pressure is usually more like 98/54.

Selegiline is a much weaker inhibitor of MAO, the Nardil and Parnate so it stands to reason that it will not be a miracle cure for many people, though some will benefit from it as we see with some of the people here.

There was a great A/D med on the market in 1985, Merital, that was very effective, but the FDA pulled it off the shelves before Eli-Lilly introduced Prozac to the public.

Bottom line is that the EMSAM patch is just a way to make more $$$ for Big Pharma in my opinion.

Of course its a way to make more money, why shouldn't it be? Are Watson and Mylan big pharma? BMS is the distributor for EMSAM. Read the story about Somerset and their pursuit of getting transdermal selegiline to market. Naturally there is a profit motive, but besides that obvious one, which is common to just about every sane adult, there was no hype machine in effect, now or then, regarding EMSAM. As an aside, I think making transermal Nardil would be a great test/idea, and with it off patent, why not?
