Hi
I'm new to all of these threads and read some before I came here but I thought I could find some help here.
I was on paxil almost three years ago and was taken of it gradually after I was involved in a minor assault charge and my psychiatrist had admitted to the court in writing that he thought that Paxil contributed to my aggression...the thing is while still on probation the court wanted me to see the same doctor after voluntarily not going to appointments and getting meds from my family doctor I won that battle in court.
The thing is a almost a year later I've started taking wellbutrin (staying on all the other prescribed medications as before) and 3 weeks into the treatment I'm starting to notice the same withdrawl and apathy and just general hatred for some things and I'm worried that this will bring me to where i was and if it does I will go to jail for what in canada is a year less a day... pluss 45 days for violating probation. I have told my family doctor all of this and he doesn't seem to care. He has now put me on a low dose of amitryptaline and I don't see a difference.
Does anyone think I should still push to go off of the wellbutrin? I'm taking 100mg...Ive often thought of dose titration: day taking it then not for two weeks then two days off for two weeks then off completly....I have a little bit of a backgroung in pharmacology from University.
Help, suggestions...

hey.
you might have more responses over on the main babble board that deals with medications.(or maybe the withdrawal board? not sure)
this board deals mostly with psychology / psychotherapy issues.
i don't know the medications so i don't really have anything to say... sorry.

If Paxil made you aggressive, Wellbutrin ought to be worse, at least in my experience. When I first started taking Wellbutrin...and for few months thereafter, I noticed I had periods of intense anger, which for me was really atypical. I'm about as slow to anger as they come, under most conditions. I know that it seems everyone who is depressed/anxious is now being called bipolar, but some people do have a very angry state as their manic state. Could that be? If so, you need different meds. Best of luck.

the other meds that I'm on are topamax, amitryptaline, and lorazepam. I don't think that the lorazepam does anything really to calm me until I've actually realized the state that i'm in and can do something about it. And I don't think with all this i'd want to add an anti psychotic just to curb the effects of one pill just to make it better when it can just be substituted for another when really wellbutrin should only be used as a short term med.

Wellbutrin isn't an antipsychotic it's an antidepressant with stimulating qualities. Maybe wellbutrin is the problem. I took it for a week and ended up in the hospital as I appeared manic.Love Phillipa

Hi,
I've tried bupropion multiple times and it has always caused an aggressive or angry attitude when first titrating up. The new XL version of Wellbutrin seemed to cause less of this problem but it is not available in a generic and is thus more expensive. I'm not sure if it is even available in Canada. For someone with anger and aggression issues I believe that using bupropion would be asking for trouble. I am normally pretty mild mannered and it almost got me in a jam. I would look for something less likely to cause these problems, which is probably most anything else other that the stimulants. Amitriptyline and it's major metabolite nortriptyline have a narrow therapeautic window. A low doseage that gives you a blood level outside this window probably won't do much good. I would probably look for some help from someone that is more of an expert in the use of these medications.
Good Luck,
Jedi...

She replied before the thread was moved to the meds board. If you see the word "reposted" up near the top of the post, it means that the post has been redirected from another board.
