The following is an email from me to Dr. Alexander J. Bodkin, MD and followed by his response regarding comparisons of EMSAM, Nardil & Parnate specifically for SAD:
Doctor:
I'm sorry to ask, but I had one addition question. Do you feel EMSAM will be helpful for social anxiety disorter compared to nardil or parnate? Just wondering if you had any insight regarding that. Thanks again for you response, it's so helpful for me. I won't keep pestering you, promise!
Here is his response:"Its as good as parnate, but nardil is unsurpassed"
Assuming that's true I'll need to stay with klonopin and use EMSAM to do what klonopin can't, improve energy, mood and mental clarity. If that's the case, I'm good with it as the combo is working. I think I'll just go back up to my 2mg dose of klonopin along with EMSAM. Rob

Very interesting. I wonder what kind of investment it would take to get transdermal phenylzine to the market, supposing that it too left the MAO in the liver and stomach largely intact, and thus were at some efficacious anti-depressant dose still able to be used without dietary restriction.

As for them making a patch that contains the ingredient of nardil (I dont feel like trying to spell it)...I think it depends on what kind of success the EMSAM patch has. Hopefully it does well so that more research will be done on MAOI's.
--If emsam is as good as parnate, than that's fantastic to me.

So nardil is better than EMSAM? Love Phillipa

The reaserchers comments would suggest that Nardil is the go to med for social anxiety disorters as far as MAOI's go. That said, many do find relief for anxiety from Parnate vs Nardil, but Nardil has long been known to be very effective for SAD for those that can tolerate it.
I suspect EMSAM will best be an option for treating Major Depression as a primary disorter and those with Anxiety Disorters who get relief from a benzo, but need another med to blend with it to tackle the mild depression, low energy and mental clarity that comes with the use of a benzo. How much it will help with SAD is yet to be determined.

I asked the reasercher his opinion if there would be a Nardil patch. This was his response:
"That is not at all likely, tho if this REALLY takes off, its not impossible."

I keep hearing this Nardil is unsurpassed, buty when i visit the Nardil group, all nardil users,it seems as though the medication is simply not what it was,and i promise i do not want to get into a debate on the new formulation issue i just am trying to make sense of it all.
I wish i could have stood the trial,i was told of some strategies to start on Nardil but im so scared of it not working, and from that point on not being able to get parnate again, its on my mind.
I hated nardil, but on the same note i took it with anxiety of it not working in my gut,as well as short trial periods,so i cant fully say it was totaly ineffective, but i have seen just as many negative responses here as postive, and the negative ones resemble the experieance i had,it just that have that STRONG kick at the start i need,i am very ansy and impulsive and will creep to other drugs if a drug doesent show me some form of relieaf.
This is the end of the thread.
