emsam and muscle cramps?

Posted by crabwalk on May 15, 2006, at 11:46:13

Anyone getting muscle cramps on emsam? They just started last week, 3rd week of being on it, in my quads by my knees. More annoying than anything. I've never had muscle cramps in this area before so I was thinking it was somehow a side effect...

You could also try B complex vitamins. Some people experience muscle cramps or weakness, esp. when exercising, on maois, whichs can be addressed by one of the B vitamins. Might be that.

It's not a big problem, just wondering if it was a weird side effect that someone else had noticed. If it gets worse then I could see it becoming quite painful, but it's very mild now. I drink over 2 liters of water a day and have been taking multivitamins for about 5 months now. I have been exercising more lately, might have something to do with it. Could be something that magnesium could help; Mg could help with my tremor and insomnia too maybe.

Just wondering what type of multivitamin you're taking. The hard ones, which most popular brands are, sometimes don't get absorbed that well. It it bothers you after trying other things, you could try B complex vitamins that are either gelcaps or capsules,, which you can get at vitamin or health stores.

I am on Day 3 of Emsam.

Yes, I have had mild muscle cramps, and a slight headache that lasts all day long.

I had none of these S/E's before the Emsam.

Yes. It's been my primary side-effect complaint, and what brought me to this board, initially. I think some minor confusion had me lost in the threads, but now that I've found my way back, you seem to be the 1st person other than me who is experiencing this.

Dear Phillipa, it seems like my whole lower body, hips down. Like I've run a marathon. Stiff, sore, a constant ache. It doesn't go away by moving around & trying to 'work it out', or by resting. I've started stretching a bit before getting out of bed, that seems to help a bit. Overall, it's improving slightly, or I'm becoming accustomed to it. So far, I'm doing so without pain pills. My psych meds & other drugs are more than enough already. I have to conclude the EMSAM is the cause, I've started no other new med/activity that would correspond w/ the timing of such a pronounced symptom. If this continued, it would be a quality of life issue, or I'd be concerned that something bigger was going on to cause this pain. If it goes away, I suppose I'll talk w/ my doc next week & we'll take it from there.

Thanks, Phillipa, I think you are right - I will...I took the patch off for 24 hrs, just put it back on tonite. Maybe I am still adjusting, but the achiness (sp?) is still there. A.
