Started Effexor 37.5 today-very ill

Posted by SlickNYC on May 9, 2006, at 15:11:05

I started Effexor 37.5 today, after having oatmeal and 1/2 cup of caffeinated tea. Within 15 minutes I felt naseous. I became sick to my stomach and couldn't do anything for 1 hr 45 min. I don't drink or do any drugs and didn't mix it with any herbs this morning. I serioiusly thought I was going to need to call an ambulance because I was freaking out. I couldn't stop moaning and doubling over. It was very intense like a bad ecstasy or acid trip. It's 4 hours later and now I feel pretty normal with mild side effects. I still feel a little speedy but sleepy and not so motivated.

Sounds like the exact same reaction I had - and my sister had. One dose is all we lasted, and we've both tried many other ADs without experiencing such severe and immediate side effects.

Perhaps switching to Cymbalta might be warranted...

Sorry to hear that. I just wanted to say that I started effexor today too. My situation is a little different b/c I am switching from other meds. I started at 75 and I have been alternating between wired and very sleepy.

I did want to say that if you are uncomfortable w/ your side effects, you should call your doc asap. S/he can help you understand what is normal and what isn't and may have some suggestions for dealing w/ them. I give this advice b/c I always wait too long to call when I'm having a prob. This is the doc's job. Give them a call.

Good luck!

Best,
EE
