I have low blood pressure to begin with. The few psych meds out there that can raise blood pressure make me feel much more depressed. Ones I like better lower blood pressure even more.
I'm wondering, is there a med you can take as an antidote to raise blood pressure? It doesn't need to be a mood med, though that would be cool. I'm just wondering if someone has low blood pressure how can they raise it a bit, to counteract the further lowering of blood pressure from a psych med.

Med wise no unless you were in a hospital on a dopamine drip. Extra fluids and salt? Love Phillipa

Phillipa, extra fluids and salt? Really? That will raise my blood pressure? Let me know. If you really think it could, I might try that.

Hi Blueberry, these are the meds I found on the net that can raise blood pressure that are also AD's:
Desipramine (Norpramin)
Phenelzine (Nardil)
Bupropion (Wellbutrin, Wellbutrin SR, Zyban)
Venlafaxine (Effexor, Effexor XR)Don't know as I'd try increasing my bp with salt, though, IMO.

Blueberry all I know is if a pt came back from surgery and pressure was low we would put their head lower than the body and open up the IV of normal saline. Now thats salt and water. I wonder if something would come up on a google search. I'll see. Love Phillipa oh cymbalta will raised BP and less benzos although I don't believe you use them.

Blueberry googled raising blood pressure. There are a number of herbal remedies citrius aurating(bitter orange), Ginko,Ginseng,Licorice, St John's Wort. Did not know any of that. Oh and birth control pills with more than 50mcg of estrogen too. Interesting. I'd post on alternative a Thread to Larry Hoover the alternative expert. Love Phillipa

You probably have the best chance with a noradrenergic med, like Strattera, or higher doses of Effexor. Higher doses of Effexor have been known to cause hypertension in some, mostly due to the norepinephrine action kicking in.

Effexor certainly is known to raise blood pressure, and Ritalin raised mine while boosting my mood. I've been in my normal range on Wellbutrin, if that helps.
And Scott's right, florinef is the drug I've come across most often as the fix for lowered BP.

Does the low blood pressure cause clear symptoms? If not, it's best left untreated.
