Sinequan, Pfizer's tricyclic AD, will soon be dicontinued in the UK. I do not know whether it will remain available in the US.

Generic doxepin (Sinequan) is not available in the UK. As a result, when the Sinequan brand is discontinued, doxepin will not be available in the UK at all.
Is doxepin available as a generic in the US?

I don't know - I do know that my psychiatrist never brought it up as a possibility for me when we were trying TCAs, which (if it is available) would be odd because I was adamant about not gaining weight on a TCA.

That is not odd at all, doxepin is perhaps the most apt to produce weight gain of all the TCA's.
Doxepin is available as a generic in the U.S., but I don't think it's used as an AD often, it is more of a sedative/anxiolytic.

My cognition seems to be impaired lately (hello Parnate withdrawal, much?)
Which TCA am I thinking of that has less propensity to cause weight gain than Desipramine? There was a head-to-head comparison with Desipramine and another drug; I believe the study was done in the 1980's. It's been a while since I read it.

Why's it being discontinued? Was it a safety thing? I'm curious because I'm sure this is one of the meds I was on when I was a teenager -both sinequan and doxepin sound very familiar.

Pfizer claim it's a manufacturing problem. I really don't know what's going on with Pfizer lately, they seems to have had manufacturing problems with most of their products.

Some people though after they work through that (highly suggest a weekend) may take doxepin for insomnia and not be passed out for 2 days. It also happens to be a very strong and effective H1 and H2 blockade and is good for people who have complex angioedemic allergy problems (like my mother.)
This is the end of the thread.
