I was extemely sensitive to the med it made me hypomanic and in a hospital a week later. Since anxiety is my big issue it put me over the edge. Love Phillipa

Hi.
When I originally started it about 4 years ago it helped within 2 weeks. I had been severely depressed and unable to get out of bed.

I saw a post that you really need to give it 3 months (ugh, I know). That was my experience-but then, it really didn't help much, either. Best of luck!

I started feeling good in a week to 10 days. I'm extra sensitive to activating (NE) meds, though, and often get a quick response to ADs that take longer for other people. The effects continued to increase over about a month to 6 weeks if I remember rightly.

I couldn't tolerate the full dose (300 mg/day) -- after 6 weeks I was running hypomanic all the time, not sleeping and having to take benzos to compensate. I keep wanting to go back to it beacause I felt so GOOD, but I don't want to get back on that particular merry-go-round.

To feel it, or to feel good from it ?

To feel it, I think I recall a matter of days to weeks.

To feel good from it and get the most efficacy, probably a few months.

Its a fairly powerful antidepressant in terms of stimulation, with Effexor running behind it, so you will undoubtedly have issues of sleep unless you don't have any problem with insomnia. That was the show stopper for me, I couldn't sleep eventually, my head started ruminating. But its good for some people, it just depends

Just goes to prove how different our bodies metabolize and our neurotransmitters recieve/send signals from one person to another.

I felt the effect of Wellbutrin the same day I took the first dose. It was a slight physical-blood/chemical/nerve sensation (hard to explain.) I told my pdoc about it and she was surprised. She mentioned it to the head pdoc and he said it is rare, but not unheard of. My body is very sensitive to chemical additives. It did take a few days to start feeling appreciable mood stabilizing effects.

I wonder if there is any relationship between how stimulating it is to a person and how useful it is as an AD to that person? I expected Wellbutrin to stimulate the heck out of me, like everyone else I know-but it didn't, I didn't have insomnia or high stimulation, even at 450 mg. It did make me fearful. But then, I found Prozac not to stimulate me and Paxil to stimulate me substantially.
