I am on efexor for the 2nd time. The first time I was on it for 18 months. My GP took me off of it cold turkey. It had worked great and then my grandfather (who raised me) dies suddenly and my doc all of a sudden thinks it doesn't work any more. I finally got someone to prescribe it for me again. I am on day 2. I did't sleep weel last night but I still feel great today. I did not get nausea with the last round but I am getting it this time. I am on 37.5 for 7 days and then I go up to 75 a day. How long does the nausea last?

Personally I would google Dr. Bob's goggle at the bottom of the page a lot of effexor threads will be there as I have no personal experience with nausea. And you'll probably find a lot of good posts that address your problem. Google effexor hope you find it helpful. Love Phillipa

Hey there, wow, effexor cold turkey, how did you find it? Effexor should never be stopped cold turkey. You don't happen to live in the UK do you (where GPs are notorious for not really having a clue about pysch meds in my experience).
Kind regards
Cath

My doctor just didn't know what to do next. I was going through a lot at the time so I don't remeber a lot about the withdrawal symptoms. I know I wanted back on it but my doctor said no. I live in Indiana. I know that I would never do the cold turkey thing again.

I imagine this is different for every individual, and even different for one certain individual, and it certainly can be different for you each time.
I recall having nausea like symptoms until I reached 150 mg for a few days. It continued to cause an uncomfortable intestinal or stomach feeling for some time, even when my dose was increased. If I recall correctly, effexor lost its stimulant quality for a while until I was on a higher dose (225mg?), and yet still higher (300 mg?), it got demotivating again.
I found that if I took it in the morning, even with food, I had abdominal discomfort all day. I started taking it at night and it helped a lot.
This is the end of the thread.
