Seroquel and Klonopin

Posted by waterfall on April 14, 2006, at 19:32:44

I was on 1 to 1 1/2 mgs of Klonopin along with Lexapro and Lamictal for bipolar 2 and was doing really well, then I hit a rough patch.

My psych moved me to Seroquel and said to taper the Klonopin if I felt too sedated. I've spent two weeks getting up to 125 mgs of Seroquel but I'm still at a mg of Klonopin every day, usually taken during the day when I feel that insane, anxious intensity, rather than just at night like I used to.

Does anyone else take Seroquel with Klonopin? Isn't one supposed to replace the other? How much Seroquel until it takes over? I can feel the sedation quite clearly, and it is helping some (I sleep through the night and everything), but I still feel most days like I need the Klonopin before bed time.

Any thoughts much appreciated

Hi there,

I would be extremely interested to know how well Klonopin and Seroquel would work together. I take 4mg Klonopin or even 8mg per day (depending on how many places I'm finding myself having to go to or how many people I'll have to be interacting with....big time social anxiety). But I try to stay with 4mg in the afternoon and 2mg in the evening, when the world is beginning to slow down and there's not much chance of having to converse with people. Not always the case, though. Sometimes the body just decides it wants to be anxious all on its own, regardless of your thoughts.

I take 100mg Seroquel at night for no other reason than just for a sleep aide for my insomnia. My seroquels come in those tiny little 25mg pills, sooo.......

I'm very, very curious to know how the two meds would work together. Has anyone tried this yet? Do you require less Klonopin? Does 25mg of Seroquel help with, say, 3mg of Klonopin? It would be absolutely fantastic to be able to cut down on the Klonopin and then have it available for times when I am really in dire need of it!!

It never even occured to me to try the two meds together. Are they compatable? Oh, I so hope to hear some good news!!

Take care and Happy Easter!!

Sandy

so far, I still need almost as much Klonopin as I did before and I am grinding it out with the anxiety. i.e. I'm taking less Klonopin but it shows. I'm bumping up to 200 mg of Seroquel tonight. I just can't tolerate the anxiety and I hate feeling like crap every day and needing that Klonopin to get me through. I'm really hoping to get to a nighttime dose of something that will keep me through the next day.

That's so sad. I'm sorry that you didn't find an alternative to the Klonopin.

Actually, I've never found Seroquel to help with anxiety. If anything, it seems to make me more anxious. That might be because I can get nervous and anxious if I begin to get tired. So if I only take 25mg during the day, even though it doesn't make me much more tired than I already was, it can in effect cause my anxiety to shoot up. But I thought maybe the two meds together might make for a good try. Oh well. I'll be staying clear of that now!

Hopefully, I can always stay with doctors who won't have problems prescribing my Klonopin. Especially now that I've just cold-turkeyed Remeron and Topamax. Not much of a choice. Guess I'll be tearing my fingernails out of my keyboard by this time next week. *weak giggle* Please, NO.

I hope you enjoy your holiday weekend.

Sandy

I've been taking 300mg Seroquel and 0.5mg Klonopin at night for some time. I sleep well and I'm not nearly as jumpy or paranoid or anxious than before. If you bump up your Seroquel, you might find that you can lower the Klonopin.

Good luck!
