Lamictal

Posted by Sonny Liston on April 10, 2006, at 13:55:10

Anyone else have cognitive difficulties on Lamictal? On 25 Mgs and I feel like my thought's are being held under lock and key. I also become a litlle dettached from surroundings and some what sedate.

Is it the lamictal? Or the klonopin+Effexor+Lamictal. I'm about ready to give up on this drug...........

Feel free to jump in and post.

I would be surprised if it's the Lamictal given the very small dose you are on. When did you notice the problems in comparison to when you started which med?

Hope you are able to figure it out. It sounds frustrating.

Symptoms began with starter pack dosing. I'm 14 days in ready to jump to 50 mgs. Your right "gg" hard to believe such a small dose would amount to anything.

I'm not BP, just have a lot anxiety/irritabilty. Doc thought I should try it. I would love to ditch the effexor. I just don't know anymore.

Ask your doc if maybe monotherphy for a time. I'd go with the lamictal hear it's good for depression. Effexor there is a long thread on that. Better yet goggle both the meds on Dr. Bob. Then ask your pdoc Love Phillipa

That sounds like it could be the lamictal, then. I tried Topamax to augment Nardil in the past, and it definitely made me more depressed. I don't remember the dose, but it wasn't very high because I was not on it all that long. Could be lamictal is not the right med for you.

I'm not BP either. My pdoc said Lamictal was good for the depressive side of BP and was being used more for unipolar depression. So far so good with it for me.

It's so hard to know, isn't it? I'd like to someday ditch the Nardil, and I'll have to if I become pregnant. But I don't want to go back into significant depression, so right now is not a good time for me to try. Too much going on that's stressful. (As if there's ever a good time, eh?)

Take care,

gg

Like all meds, each one affects everone differently. I never made it past 50 mg of lamictal. I had headaches and vivid dreams. At 50 mg short term memory as well as other cognitive ability were affected. I am also on 2mg daily of K...Your body may adjust. mine did not after 30 days. A huge relief to throw in the towel on this med. It does work very well for many. Good luck.

Lamictal on the very first day, just recently, shut my brain down bigtime. I only did 12.5mg and 4 hours later it felt like a dump truck landed on me. I was so severely depressed and heavy laiden the rest of the day and most of the next day I thought of going to the hospital multiple times. Not only was I close to suicide severe, I could hardly walk or think or anything.

Sometimes when needed I will take .25mg xanax. I have never taken more than .5mg at a time. I wonder what 20mg would feel like all at once. Now I know. Just take lamictal.

Strange how some people do so well on it and take such high doses. For me, a mere 12.5mg was a devastating 36 hour nightmare. I was hanging on hour by hour waiting for it to wear off.

Thank you so much for your experiences and thoughts.

I really would like to find something to calm me down and slow things down a bit. The K helps but doesn't quell the irritability and impatience.

GG you right it seems there never is a good time.....
