I am living in Rome and have had great trouble receiving adderal (may be spelling this wrong) from the US where a doctor has been prescribing for me. Once it was held in customs for a month and I was charged a large "examination" fee on top of the expensive shipping cost. Does anyone know which countries in Europe allow the sale of adderal and whether aprescription is required and if so how to get one. I have been taking it for about ten years in combination with prozac and no other meds i have tried have worked as well. thank you for any suggestions.

european countries aren't as big on stimulants as those in the US. I think most countries sell provigil, ritalin, and dexedrine but I don't think adderall is available through most of europe (maybe in the UK?) Perhaps you could have your doc switch you to dexedrine, or have your doc conference with an Italian doc to get an Italian prescription for something.

Ciao!
I can only say for the UK, but I think what with the EU and everything, its the same as in Italy....
Well basically getting your hands on a stimulant such as adderal is basically very hard, through the primary (ie state) healthcare system. That said, you may have greater sucess if you are an American with a prescription for Adderall from a US doctor. I know an old GP of mine was happy to prescribe an American's drugs, using the American prescription, although that was only for wellbutrin, zyprexa and prozac, which is alittle different I guess.
I think Adderall in most European countries (if not all) it is a scheduled drug and its really hard to get presribed from a GP (unless you are a ADHD kid). I guess your best bet would be trying a pdoc. In the UK at least, the docs have a drug 'manual' and in it, it specifically says that stimulants should not be prescribed as AD auguments, for depression or weight loss. Which is a real shame because they can be helpful...
Its hard. I guess your first approach would be to try the local doc with your american prescription and see what he/she says. If that fails, then I would try an find a pdoc..... and another one, and another, until you find one that agrees...and you might get the drug for a nomial fixed price like here in the Uk, which is like a fixed charge for all prescription drugs prescribed by state docs, around 9 euros. But I think you have to be a EU citizen to get that benefit...or be a sort of 'permanent resident' living there and working and hence paying tax for the state....
My impression based on my ex-GP is that if you have an American prescription and you are an American, they will try and respect your prescription, although they wouldn't nessescarily prescribe that combintation to a 'native' if that makes sense. I guess its just a difference in culture. I have noticed that here in Europe doctors are far less 'pill happy' than their american counterparts, and its pretty hard to get your hands on any of the stronger drugs without seeing a pdoc.
Anyway I lived in italy for a while and my bro lives there now, its a lovely place!!!!!
Kind regards
Meri

Sorry I didn't really answer your question!!
> Does anyone know which countries in Europe allow the sale of adderal and whether aprescription is required and if so how to get one.
No idea which countries prescribe Adderall, (Ed_uk where are you??!) but I can say that a prescription is certainly required. You need to see a GP/pdoc who will prescribe it (or something similar) for you. If you take along your American prescription and details and explain the situation....You may be alright. There is a world of difference between the prescribing patterns of a European doc and an American one....do you notice that here in Europe we don't have advertisements for prescription drugs????
Switzerland isn't in the EU and may be slightly different in terms of drugs and prescribting them and probably your best bet from outside italia....
Slovenia and Croatia are not in the EU either (hmmm I think so anyway!!) although not really sure they would stock Adderall either but again you would need a prescription, although they are pretty close.

It seems like it would be difficult to do - at least legally. Since it's a schedule ii med, I have to have a new scrip every month, on a special form. No call-ins allowed.
Then if I drop off the scrip at the pharmacy, when I come back to get it they have it locked up in a safe.

Hi Meri!
Adderall is not available in the UK. In fact, I don't think it's marketed anywhere in Europe.
Dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine) is available in the UK, and possibly a few other European countries.
Methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta) is the most widely used stimulant in Europe.

Shire are releasing a new dexedrine formulation that is bound to an amino acid so as to prevent any recreational uses. There goal is that it will be schedule 4 and so you could buy a six month supply . So you would hav eto fly to New York twice a year but at least this would enable you to the meds you need.

Thanks to all who have so far replied to my
question about finding addreal in Europe. I will be out of adderal tommorrow and am FRUSTRATED. In Italy ADD does not exist!!!!
Can anyone think of what I can use, perhaps herbs or vitamins, to help me in this period without medication? I was thinking of trying guarana. I am afraid that my depression will increase and that I will not be able to function.
Does anyone, perhaps Ed?, know which countries in Europe allow the sale of dexedrine or ritalin? Also, how would I find out whether adderal is available in Switzerland or Croatia, is there a website that I could search? Thank you!

Hi Goose
>In Italy ADD does not exist!!!!
In the UK, it exists until the age of 16 - then suddenly disappears overnight.
>Italy
Have you tried desipramine? As far as I know, desipramine is available in Italy under the brand name Nortimil. Desipramine is an antidepressant which can be effective for ADD.
