Everyone seems to respond differently. That said, if I had to pick I'd personally go with Dex because it is more selective to the brain, and it is much cheaper. Just my 2 cents. Some do much better with Adderall.

xr is for pussies. no sorry. just joking. well sort of. it all depends on your body / metabolism / reaction.

some people take 10mg of adderall and get the reaction needed. others take 20mg. they even make adderall in 30mg. six years ago i was taking 30mg adderall a few times a day. but i've always had high levels when it comes to meds.

but i have not personally responded at all to the xr with the amphetamine meds. from concerta to adderall. though i can see the benefits. ideally it would make things much better.

but the best thing to do is have your doctor give you a very small prescripton of which ever is decided upon. take it and see what your reaction is. i think it would be terribly stupid for the doctor to write and you fill out an entire script of one the meds if you haven't tried it before.

like people have said before. everyone reacts so differently. ritalin made me almost hallucinate it exagerrated the sounds, vision around me. but adderall had no such effect. dexedrine i've always responded pretty neutral to.

from my understanding dexedrine, technically, is the quickest in and out of the system. i could be wrong on this. but again it all comes down to your own body.

I agree that XR doesn't appeal to many, many foks DON"T wan't 10-12 hours of effect from their pill, resulting in insomnia, etc.

I take IR Methylphenidate, and correspond with a lady 60 yrs~ who use to take 20mgs Ritalin 5x daily, but for the past 4 years has taken 4, 30mg IR Adderall tabs 4x daily=120mgs Adderall daily, with good results.

MANY folks like the flexibility of IR stims, for their health issues

Cheers

Methylphenidate? is that the one that is very very potent.

NO NO NO!

Methylphenidate (Ritalin) is amoung the weakest of the stimulant medications:

They usually go:

-Coffee
-Ritalin (Methylphenidate)
-Cylert (Pemoline)
-Adderall
-Dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine)
-Desoxyn (Methylphetamine)
the STRONGEST of stims, for stimulant tolarant folk.

Unfortunately not...I've tried ritalin, dex and adderall but can't tolerate them. They all worked very well for my ADHD though. If I could I'd probably take Dex in the morning and ritalin in the evening. But that's just me. Hope you find something that works for you.

Do you or have you tried any stimulants or other ADHD meds?

Mike

I wonde why you can't take Adderall, Dex, Rit,

In my area only Ritalin IR 10ng (Generic)+Ritalin sr 20mg is funded.

I would like to trial Dextroamphetamine (available here as a 5mg IR tab only) to see any differences, what do you think?

Well, being that it nearly gave me a heart attack I'd say definitely be cautious and talk it over w/ your doc. Don't let that unnecessarily scare you though...I'm unusually hypersensitive to stimulants...lots of people do great on dex... but then again as with all head meds your mileage may very and it's mostly trial and error.

Good luck and cheers back,

Mike

Hi. How's it going?

Sometimes it's difficult to interpret a poster's tone, so I will try not to jump to the conclusion that your comments above were meant to mock my previous post.

Perhaps I didn't understand it correctly and/or perhaps you didn't read where I said "...definitely be cautious and talk it over with your doc".

To be clear on my end, I meant to share that I had serious adverse reactions to Dexedrine, but that many people do not...and that one should always be cautious and discuss risk/benefits on a case-by-case basis with their doctor. I am sorry if I did not make this point clear, as my intention was to provide an honest and constructive feedback to Paulbwell.

Regards,

Mike

thanks mike i appreciate it. i was really out of line. i don't know what i was thinking. i wrote that and then when i came home later i looked at it and i don't remember what my mind set was. it was like i was drunk or something. but i don't really even drink. anyway. i just wanted to say thanks again.

the one thing that is beyond important & obvious here is people should not feel uncomfortable writing down there feelings and opinions and if you have someone (like me) writing comments like that it really changes the atmosphere and ones ability to feel comfortable writing down ones feelings.

thanks

hey Reese,

it's all cool...seriously, your response speaks much more highly of your character than the original post

i am also all too familiar with the "omg what was i thinking when i posted that" feeling. it happens to the best of us...no big deal and no worries, but thanks for your apology anyway.

take care,

I don't know that I can tolerate either, to tell the truth, but of the two, Adderall seems much smoother to me. Smoother easing into it, and far, far less of a crash when coming down.

I'm still experimenting with dose and time taken though.

What dose of what pill are you taking?

I thought most found Adderall-with it's L-Amphetamine component 'more somatically activating', while, pure Dextroamphetamine, has been described "as so smooth", (althought not as smooth as Desoxyn-but noone gets that) hence why it's 1 of the few pills from the 50's still around, and why, 'good ole boy' Cash and Elvis, amoung other arty types loved em'.

-Dexedrine, Dextrostat 5mg IR-15mg SR
-Adderall, 5mg IR-30mg IR@SR caps.

Cheers

Adderall is definitely rougher than dexedrine for me and had much bigger effect on blood pressure.
