D-Cycloserine for Social Anxiety

Posted by sabre on March 15, 2006, at 16:15:03

Hello
I noticed there was discussion about D-Cycloserine a few years ago on Babble. Has anyone tried it? What do you think?

Thanks

I saw a programme some time ago about PTSD and the laying down of memory and this stuff with a name like that, I think, was used to enhance, I suppose, desensitization techniques. The case cited was fear of heights.

there was a program on about it the other night, well, a short segment anyway, my brother said they mentioned it for social phobia, i did a search, and it said it is being tryed in ocd also, along with cbt, it supposedly has an effect on the fear center in the brain, sounds very promising..john

Thanks for the threads Cairo, one stated d-cyloserine effected the glycine NMDA site, I wonder if anyone thinks that DMG, a supplement that also effects glycine, would have similiar effects. shot in the dark, but i'm just curious..john

Thanks Cairo And John for the links and the glycine suggestion.
The current drugs just don't seem to hit the spot. I'm always curious about new approaches.
Thanks.

It's an antibiotic. Used to be used for tuberculosis.

Most the studies seem to focus on situational phobias, from fear of heights to fear of public speaking. I see little indication D-cycloserine would be useful in general social phobia. I would love for that not to be the case, but it does seem to be. I don't function well in groups of strangers, but I'm not overtly fearful - I don't sweat, I don't panic, I don't shake. I simply can't socialize - my conversational abilities disappear. I can't access simple social functions, it's as if they don't exist.
