Posted by rjlockhart on March 11, 2006, at 19:02:02

I want to ask my doctor about ECT about ADD.

Is ECT good about ADD? or will he please even consider it.

Any advice?

ECT has not been tested for ADD. In addition, ECT very often gives people memory loss.

Its a last resort, beyond MAOIs and such. I think even Deep Brain Stimulation is less harsh, though a minor to medium surgical procedure.

Matt,
I often feel from your posts that you are looking for a quick solution to your struggles. I think we all would love that. Of course we would. But it's not that easy. There's no one pill or procedure that will "cure" someone forever and immediately.

Learning problem-solving and coping skills and establishing effective and appropriate boundaries with loved ones will go a long way towards developing feelings of competence and confidence. You may wish to look into psychotherapy. CBT or DBT might be a good fit for you.

Good luck,

gg

hey...I also used to over-rely on drugs to "fix" what I felt was wrong with me...I think maybe therapy (individual and/or group), self-help, and above all time will help you out.

Good luck!

It's just not the advice you're looking for:

There is no drug on this earth that will fix your life. There are only drugs which relieve the symptoms of disorders, such as reducing the attention deficit, or easing anxiety.

And, in the case of ADD, behavior modification therapy can help as much as drugs in many cases.

ECT won't help you. Working on boundaries with your mother would help you. Working on relaxation techniques would help you. Working to focus more on solutions than on problems would probably help you.

How about trying talk therapy, Matt? Don't you think that could maybe help, without running the risks that ECT would pose?

sorry i just think suicide, relief.

But thanks I do a therpist, psychodynamic. But i am not going to have thoughts anymore, i am going to make myself something when i get older. I map out my life and get screwed up and panic.

I know that there is no drug that is going to solve my problems, but maybe help. Who said that anyways? just stay on the "X" drug and everything is fine. No all drugs have there own actions that work. There can be alot of problems that the body has that is dealth with inside the mind. I think various drugs sometimes are used to cope with this.

Thanks

well, just pray i wont go nuts

Matt
