Temazepam

Posted by tygereyes on March 7, 2006, at 14:34:42

Temazepam is the WORST medication to fall asleep EVER. Unfortunately, I have nothing else at my disposal other than Benadryl. Will breaking open the capsules help me to fall asleep? Last night I took my last Lunesta at 4 a.m., knowing it would knock me out all day and knowing it makes me feel suicidal.

Please help. I have an appointment with a psychiatrist tomorrow. I need ideas. I can't take Ambien (was taking Ambien + Ambien CR but had amnesia and bingeing problems on those drugs), won't take anything that will make me gain weight, and have a substance abuse history. Is there any hope for me?

Hi there-- there are a lot of options out there for you, depending on your needs. For short-term, benzos like Ativan or Klonopin work well for sleep. I've taken 2mg of Klonopin at night for over two years, but now it just mellows me out, and I need something more to put me to sleep. Trazodone is supposed to be non-addicting and a more long-term solution, but it has a long half-life and can cause sleepiness the next day. Antipsychotics, especially Zyprexa and Seroquel are also good for sleep in low doses. I hope this helps. Have hope! Good luck, CB

Temzepam works on me fine, i take 30mg nightly to calm my wild *ss down.

Anyways, no i know what you are saying, i do wake up in the middle of the danm night, can not go back to sleep, danm you temazepam!

I also take Xanax 1mg. I take it when i cant get back to sleep only if needed.

Temazepam is something i've taken to go to parties to take the social egde off, even though it take it for at times severe insomnia.

Anyways. I hope you find something like Tranxene to go to bed maybe. Thats lasts a while.

Take Care

Matt

Unfortunatly I have a substance abuse issues too, quite a long time ago mind you but it's still there. I know that benzo's are very habit forming but Valium works great for me without drug seeking behaviour. If you can get past the first few days without raising your dose you might just find it very theraputic like I do. I don't get a high from it anymore but I don't need to raise my dose either. Stilnox (ambien) gives me a very upset stomach and Imovane (zopiclone, lunesta's little sister) gives me a foul taste in my mouth, shocking bad breath and really bad anxiety for the entire next day. I know I do go on about this but the best sleep med I have ever taken is Mogadon (nitrazepam) which I'm pretty sure is not available in the US. It's also a benzo and can be habit forming. Temazepam gives me a buzz and makes me sit up and chew people's ears off and doesn't make me sleepy at all, it's totally useless for me personally and actually keeps me awake for hours. All the best finding something that works for you, Paul.

Hi

Personally, I don't find temazepam very sedating at all. It feels more like an anti-anxiety drug than a sleeping pill. Nitrazepam might be more sedating, but some people wake up feeling 'hung over'. Nitrazepam can be particularly useful for people who wake up a lot during the night and suffer from daytime anxiety as well.

Regards

Ed

that's why I take it Ed, the hang over effect takes sometime to go away but it eventually does and it helps to keep you asleep. Paul
