It will be months before you are able to stop taking benzos coming off of a dose like that. I would not recommend just stopping cold turkey from a dose so high, as you could have serious seizures. Good luck.

10 mg/day? Wow. As Matt said, be careful to taper off that dosage slowly.

Why on Earth would they test your *blood* for benzodiazepines? Are you applying to be an astronaut? Standard *urine* testing does not include benzodiazepines.

Based on a half-life for Xanax of 11 hours, your blood levels would probably be undetectable in 3 or 4 days. But going cold turkey is not a safe option.

Xanax can have a much shorter half life than 11 hours, as low as 6, which is why it needs so many doses in a day, although that's the quoted in vivo. At any rate, a washout is determined by 5 times the half life generally as noted by the previous poster. Depending on what type of job, they may or may not check for benzodiazepines although they could. I would reiterate, do not cold turkey -- that is half the upper range equivalency of epilepsy use of Klonopin. You have to cut it 10% per week, give or take to avoid "withdrawal". Some say it depends also on how long you've been taking it. That's probably partially true.

Good luck on the drug test but while benzodiazepines have their use and are among the safest //prescribed// psychiatric medications //when used properly// , withdrawal will occur cold turkey.
