I love adderal, it helps me really get through some tough studying for my schoolwork. However, when it begins to wear off, I have an extremely depressed and empty feeling....
Is Adderall known to have more of this effect than other stimulants? Any other recommendations? I take 10mg as needed.
Thanks
(Not that it should be necessary, but I'm also on depakote for mild cyclothemia/depression and klonopin for social anxiety)

hey. Ritalin usually has a softer come down (for most people), but other people hate it. Personally, i dont like it.
If you're doing daily adderall, its good to space it out--ex: 10am, 10lunch. Or take a benzo when it starts to wear off, if one has been prescribed. Otherwise..there isn't much to be done. Provigil might work.

thanks....yeah unfortunately im in a bad situation. i do have social anxiety, and i take a benzo for that, but I can only take stims when i really need them because it makes my anxiety bad again. If I could get on a regular dosing of adderall I dont think it would be as bad, but I have to take it on an as-needed basis.

I found Adderall the harshest. Try dexedrine or Focalin or concerta. Everyone reacts differently.

you could try talking to your doc. Some docs are doing the as-needed stimulant RX-ing thing now, especially for older ADD-ers; personally, I don't know what the deal is (taking an RX adderall "as-needed" really doesn't strike me as different from buying one from a friend for $5 a pop...except the money's going to your shrink).
Now, that said...maybe you could divide the dose? If you have a pill-cutter, try cutting up the tab (im assuming you're doing the tablet, not XR adderall). Even quarters might work; just take little pieces throughout your study period. That might help. You could also try dexedrine, like the previous poster said...unfortunately, though, it seems like a lot of docs don't RX dexedrine that often, I guess b/c its old and has a shady rep.
Good luck!

Hi
>I take 10mg as needed.
Have you tried 5mg? I imagine it would cause you less anxiety and have a milder 'come down'.

But why take it every day if it's not necessary to take it every day?

I guess we are all different. I found Adderall XR to be smoothest stimulant I tried. Are you using the XR version or the regular Adderall?

18mg Concerta actually calms me and helps my anxiety.
