keppra for bipolar

Posted by CareBear04 on February 23, 2006, at 12:50:46

Has anyone tried Keppra as a mood stabilizer or does anyone know much about it? I was recently switched from lithium to Keppra. I'm not having side effects from it, bit I can't tell what, if anything, it's doing. I've been on pretty much all the other mood stabilizers-- lithium, Depakote, Neurontin, Lamictal, Trileptal, Topomax... I would say Neurontin and TOpomax were pretty worthless. How does Keppra compare to them? I'd hardly heard of Keppra before starting it... how commonly is it prescribed compared to the other mood stabilizers? ANy info would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
CB

I've heard it can cause psychosis in those prone to it, though that doesn't mean you will. I haven't tried it yet out of the usual arsenal of off label AED mood stabilizers.
