I have been on lithium for about 2 months. My latest theraputic range was .6. Is this enough? Also, my therapist is talking about switching me to Triliptal. I have not read and good reports about his drug that would have me switch. Does anyone have an opinion?

Hi
How are you responding to lithium? What makes you want to switch?

I think that the lithium is doing fine. My phychiatrist (sp) wants me to switch. I think that he got a lot of samples and is trying to endorse the meds. I don't want to switch, I just can't get him to change his mind. I am thinking about switching doctors. What do you think? SO far he has listened to what I've said, but he still has it in his mind that he will switch it down the road.

Same thing happened to me with another class of meds. I was successfully taking luvox for depression. Celexa came out and the pdoc said he needed l0 people to participate in a study. I said no thanks this is working great. The next time he saw me I was truly relaxed thands to theraphy that taught relaxation techniques. The doc looks at me and says hey you're catatonic off this med and your're to take celexa. The celexa ruined the effects of the luvox for me which were working great and no antidepressant has worked since. Get a new pdoc ASAP Fondly, Phillipa

PDocs love new drugs, they're like children with new toys ;-)
Lithium is an old (and unfashionable) drug but it *is* a well established and effective treatment for bipolar disorder........ whereas Trileptal is not.
You know what they say.......
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Thank you for your response. I think that I am going to stand firm on the lithium. It is working (except for the weight gain :-( ) but i feel good. I just need to get my butt moving and start eating better.
