Body weight and MAOI dosage

Posted by TylerJ on February 8, 2006, at 13:42:11

Just wondering, I'm 6'8 and weigh about 275 lbs, does anyone know if a bigger heavier person requires higher doses of meds? I'll be starting parnate and would like to know. I'm actually lighter now than I was in the early 90's when I played College Football-my playing weight was 315, but I was lifting a lot of weights back then...not so much anymore.. :)

Hi Tyler.
I can tell you that a smaller person doesn't have to take a smaller dosage. I'm just under 5 feet tall and under 100 pounds and I was taking 80-100 mg of Parnate.

My guess is that weight isn't a factor when it comes to dosage.

I have heard Nardil can be very dose dependant 1mg/1kg of body weight. I don't know what the case is for Parnate but both are MAOIs. SOme say that a proper nardil trial is not taken unless that dosage is reached. I'm at 60mg (I'm 190lbs, 6'4) which is not enough. I'm going to 75mg tomorrow. The problem is the side effects are bad already so I'm concerned. I would research (google) parnate to see what the recommended dosage is.
