Which beta-blocker is more effective for the symptoms of performance anxiety (sweaty palms, tremor, etc)?
Propranolol (Inderal) ... or ... nadolol (Corgard)?

Hello
>can one take inderal daily for physical symptoms of social anxiety?
Yes, but it only relieves some of the symptoms. Inderal is most effective in relieving the following symptoms....
Racing heart, rapid heartbeat
Palpitations, awareness of heartbeat
Chest discomfort
TremorRegards

My brother-in-law has been taking it daily for some time as a blood pressure medication. He said his tennis game improved after starting it, apparently it helped with performance anxiety.

I recommend nadolol:
-According to studies nadolol is very effective to block isoprenaline and epinephrine (adrenaline) compared to other betablockers.
-substance is hydrophil it does not go in the brain thus no tiredness, concetration problems
-structure is very similar to propranolol but it has only two changed hydrophil groups.
-nadolol is not cardiodepressant, you have much less problems doing sport, jogging
-it works for 24 hours
-propranolol is only recommendable for once dusage eg. exams. but nevertheless i suppose effecacy is the same compared nadolol to propranolol
-oxprenolol is a good betablocker also
-pindolol is effective also but has much sideeffects.~sdb

Hi
Lopressor is useful for cardiac/chest symptoms but not tremor. Inderal is useful for both.

-lopressor is more or less beta1 selective
-lopressor blocks more exercise induced tachycardia but not catecholamine (adrenaline) induced tachycardia
-because lopressor does cross the blood-brain barrier there are more unpleasant sideeffects.
-propranolol and nadolol are much more effective against catecholamines.
-nadolol works for 24 hours and has almost no sideeffects, it is not cardiodepressant and does not "go in brain" because its hydrophil
-nadolol does not lower bloodpressure very effectively maybe this is an advantage (compared e.g. to carvedilol)
-oxprenolol retard (minor ISA) would be an effective alternative.~sdb

if you have heartproblems, asthma or diabetes please ask your doc first before taking a betablocker.

My fahter has it,he lets me use a pill every now and then,it can be somewhat useful or at least NOT totaly unuseful.
Think best used when uve taken a benzo already and still have anxiety, rather than keep taking more benzo lopressor in a situation like this can cover that excess anxiety, however beta blockers alone for anxiety dont hold a great reputation i dont think.
