What MAOI is EMSAM most like? Nardil? Parnate? Should it be anxiolytic and calming? OR energizing and motivating? Anybody have a clue what kind of side effects to expect?Marsha

Marsha,
Emsam is a patch delivery system for selegiline. Selegiline in pill or liquid form is suppose to be stimulating and some say it can cause some agitation or anxiety. So maybe in that sense it is more like Parnate. I'm currently on Nardil and its been rather sedating and I haven't gleened much antidepressant benefit from it so I may move on to Parnate. The Emsam aside from easing some of the diet restrictions, I have heard that some of the minimal SEs are reduced in this patch form. The way it enters the blood stream and maintains a very constant concentration can improve its effectiveness and reduce SEs. Hope that helps. There is lots of info out there.

The last thing I need is more agitation or anxiety. Anyway, thanks.
Marsha
