Is it OK to drink while on...

Posted by Deneb on January 20, 2006, at 23:23:46

Is it OK to drink 1 or 2 alcoholic beverages while taking 50mg celexa, 150mg wellbutrin sr and 0.75mg risperdal?

I'm going clubbing tomorrow. It'll be my very first time.

be careful. Respirdal is the one maybe to be concerned about, over sedation.

Wellbutrin i dont know has been said with alcohol is not a good mix.

But i've had a drink on Prozac 20mg my medication. I was fine.

It just depends.

Have fun, i hope this club is free of Xtasy, that will REALLY be a bad reaction, not saying that you would be offered it. Just watch out.

But again have fun.

Matt

Hate to tell you that, since I'm barely past my clubbin' days, but I wouldn't drink on the Risperdal nor the Wellbutrin. The Wellbutrin 'specially, since alcohol can reduce the seizure threshold, which is a danger with Wellbutrin.

I suspect that most people could manage one drink, but I also know that one drink easily becomes four. If you are going to try it out, try it in another setting first, so that you know how you'll react.

Also, I've seen several people seize from club lights, so add Wellbutrin and alcohol? Nope. If you're going to try it, have a glass of wine with dinner in a quiet place with a quiet friend, first.

Good luck, and have fun at the club

This is true, though 150 is barely a clinical dose for some. This holds more when one gets to 300 or 400. As a general thing, I would actually take a small dose of klonopin with Wellbutrin regardless, to prevent this from happening. I did anyway, I couldn't take the Wellbutrin alone, it was too stimulating.

The sustained release tablets prevent this from occuring more than the previous immediate release and are one of the few patent extenders I find medically valuable.

Not a bad idea.

They're usually on substances, but it can rarely happen. People with seizure disorders shouldn't expose themselves to strobe lights, especially without very dark sunglasses.

I'm not prone to seizures but I know how annoying strobe lights can be, having a somatiform disorder. I used to have to wear dark sunglasses comment.

Oh well, no need to worry. I didn't go clubbing after all. There was a big snowstorm overnight and some of my friends didn't want to drive downtown. It was a bust. I went to a restaurant with 2 other friends who did make it. I didn't have any alcohol.

For future reference, if you feel uncomfortable going out and NOT drinking, you can always agree to be the driver. It is a built-in excuse and people LOVE to have you not drink for that reason! It prevents any peer pressure.

Also, although I have never been on your combo of meds, I have found drinking on meds just pretty darn icky. I don't feel happy (or whatever), it just makes me so sleepy that I can't have fun. It's a bummer, but it is a sacrifice that I'm willing to make to feel better.

Best,
EE

...wierd, something chopped off what I was going to say there at the end. slip of the keyboard. I used to have to wear dark sunglasses in clubs. There, that sentence makes more sense.

I usually have about a 2 drink limit for myself, but I'm used to my medication regiment. It doesn't actually do a lot in terms of the "good part" of intoxication. Its almost as if my medications block that sometimes. I mean, I feel a little tipsy I guess. I dunno. I'm cheap, I down it, and go into the clubs :) Considering here, drinks are like $7 or $8 for anything interesting.

Actually, that's right, but...

What I didn't say is that I've known a few people whose seizure disorders were diagnosed after they seized in clubs, because of the lights. So, while they were people with seizure disorders, they didn't know it.

Hope that makes more sense.

That's an excellent idea, EE, but if memory serves (and I'm pretty sure I'm correct) Deneb doesn't drive and/or have her license. Relies on public transportation.

(Don't mean to reply for you, Deneb, but I know you've been blocked :-( Hang in there, girl, you'll get through it!)

You know, I had a dim memory that she didn't drive, but then I figured I was mis-remembering. I guess I'm not as crazy as I thought!

the main problem i have found with alcohol consumption while on a/d's is that the day after you are more prone to feeling depressed or anxious...let's face it the last thing depressed people need is to be taking depressants ;p..

if you pace yourself enough that you won't feel hung over the next day though...you should be ok..have a drink let your body metabolize for about an hour..then have another...its ok to feel buzzed but you probly dont want to get drunk...
