I'm not sure what the regular schedule for xanax is supposed to be. I would guess it probably varies somewhat from person to person.
When I really really need it to get through an unusually difficult time, I find that .25mg every 4 hours does the trick. Even though its halflife I think is about 16 hours, the primary effects seem to last about 3 to 4 hours for me. I'm not sure if it would last longer at a higher dose. I just like the way the lower dose feels.
Once every four hours works good for me.Nowadays I take .25mg just once a day.

Hi,
I've heard many (and based on my own experience in the past) that you need to dose every 4-5 hours. But, I've also heard some say that Xanax lasted a good 10+ hours for them. I would say that you should go by your symptoms.
If this is situational anxiety, you should dose when you feel it necessary. I'm sure you have heard all the dire warnings about tolerance, etc., but I would imagine that dosing more frequently than necessary has a greater chance of leading to tolerance.
Also, it this is not situational, but a longer term anxiety issue, I would enter the benzo arena cautiously. I myself got on Klonopin about a year ago for a combination of situational and generalized life anxiety, and am stuck in my taper right now. Going back I think that there were some life changes I would have made, and other meds I would have tried, before going the benzo route. But it did get me through a tough time, and while it won't be easy to get off, I think it will slowly happen.
Good luck,

Four times a day is the norm if you want to maintain levels in your body. Heavier dose at bedtime if you can't sleep. Fondly, Phillipa

hi guys, thank you for your responses
I only take 0.5mg a day . The good effect
start after 1 hour and a half. It only last for
3 or 4 hours. Im thinking in taking another
0.5mg four hours later my first dose. Maybe I
can benefir from this.
Im gonna start a thread about something you
mentioned.... tolerance

Hi Tepi
You could try a lower dose. As little as 0.125mg can work. You could repeat the dose every 4 hours.
