Posted by bigscreen on December 28, 2005, at 17:25:33

my pdoc put me back on seroquel but at a lower dosage of 25 twice a day for psychotic depression. i also take klonopin 1.5mg a day, 150 trileptal, celexa 10 and 500mg of metformin. does seroquel cause weight gain and does it cause vivid dreams.

I've read a lot about Seroquel and at the amount you are taking, it really shouldn't affect your weight at all.

I don't know about the dreams- I took it several times, and although I slept, it didn't feel "restful" to me.

I have a question (and forgive me if this sounds dumb) but what exactly is psychotic depression?

Spriggy I think it is when your depression is so bad you start to have delusions, hallucinations. But I could be wrong. Fondly, Phillipa

I suppose there's thoughts and thoughts. When my son was very small, a little baby, I would only have to be near a height and I would think 'what if I chucked him off?' In one way it's not a big deal, it's a reflection of the freedom of the situation and human perversity (only), the 'I'll do it because I can' thing. But then there's other thoughts, ones you might be more inclined to act on.

I don't think we should expect too much of our thoughts, but there's other opinions. You know, with our thoughts we create the world.

First of all, every med affects everyone differently.

But, yes, I have vivid dreams on Seroquel. I think it may be because it puts me in such a deep and wonderful sleep.

Does it cause weight gain? Personally, I don't think any emotion med causes weight gain. However, what Seroquel does do is cause grogginess or a tired feeling. When you are tired, you tend be less active. So you have to fight it, and force yourself to be active.

Bottom line: Seroquel is a miracle drug, but has its side effects. You have to decide if the benefits are worth those side effects. For me, they are.
