my body is very sensitive to antipsychotics but i think i need them. because of the racing thoughts of hurting my son earlier. he live with my mom. now i have a boyfriend and when i get stressed with him i start having those thoughts of hurting him. i am aware that i will not. i am taking 10mg of celexa, .5 twice a day of klonopin, and 150 of trileptal and the thoughts are there but not as heavy. i will be talking to psych today but am scared he may place me in a crazy house. anyone have any thoughts. i need to be on antipsychotics but cant tolerate them they have bad side effects like weight gain, akathesia, hearing things, bad headaches. but the best one for me was seroquel but i gained a lot of weight. i only took risperdal for 2 weeks but i had bad nightmares. maybe i will suggest the risperdal. my doctor diagnosed it psychotic depression or maybe some bipolar 2

In reply to my psych doc suggested topamax, posted by bigscreen on December 23, 2005, at 7:44:21
I'm back on topamax for my headaches (daily migraines). It also helps suppress my appetite.
Downside: did not help much as a mood stabilizer - but for that I take Lamictal. Also it upsets my tummy at first, but an antacid remedies that.I am bipolarII and have GAD and panic attacks; in addition to Lamictal and Topamax I also take Cymbalta, Xanax, and Ambien.

There is no way to predict what meds will work or not and what the side effects will be till you try the med. Remember, you can always stop a med if you do not like it. But you have to try the med first ! I would take the meds your doc gives you and keep him/her updated on what the effects are.

Calming down or blocking excess activity is what the APs do. But you can get that with other things too. The benzodiazepines might be worth looking at...a lot cheaper and safer...some would warn about the addiction thing...but hey, getting off an AP is no picnic either.
Naturally, you could easily try from a health food store a supplement with GABA, glycine, taurine, and inositol. They work in concert to calm down excess activity. I saw some today. If that would work, and it certainly could, you would know in just a day or two and it would cost very little to try it.
I only mention these choices because they can work, and because I sense that you would like to get relief without going the AP route. After a short trial of a benzo and then a GABA/glycine/taurine combo, you could always revert back to the APs.

I have to stay at 60mg because any higher and my blood pressure goes up. I take it at night.
How are you doing on it?

Clear Skies I forgot about the blood pressure issue. Mine went up to the l30's the last time I took it. How high did your go? Mine is so low from the benzos would that help with energy if it went up? And I can't start until next week I'm away for Christmas. We left right after the pdoc appointment. It was spontaneous so didn't fill rx. Fondly, Phillipa

That's where my BP went to. And it felt like my head was going to split like a melon.
Have a good Christmas, Phillipa.
