What would anybody consider the avg dose of aderall to be in a 24 hr period ? Also what used to be 60 to 80 mg in the late 90's or so is not what is adequate for me now. Can someone .anyone give me an ideal of what is "normal " or high or low! I am only scripted 15mg bid but it does not touch my motivation or anergia can anyone relate? Yes I am also aware of its' tolerance issues!
Thankyou,
Snapper

hi! I think adderall dosages vary **widly**, not just from person to person, but from general location to general location.
Example: When I lived in a large town/small city with lots of wealthy people (lots of old money, some new money), lots of upwardly mobile young professionals, and what not, my dosage was 60mgs/day, which was pretty standard--some of my friends who still live there take up to 90.
Now, where I live (rural, small town), 20mgs once daily is pretty common. 2X daily dosing is almost unheard of. Benzos are also dispensed less frequently (interestingly, atypical antipsychotics seem to dominate the landscape here).
I'd say that if you have a **good** shrink (neither over-conservative, nor a "Valley of the Dolls"-style doc), anywhere from 20-60 would be normal, with higher dosages going to some occasional resistant cases and lower doses being used for depression. The FDA recommends capping the dosage for ADHD at 40mgs, but thats a pretty rough guideline.
I dont know what to tell you about your tolerance. Adding provigil might help, if your doc is up for it. Total or partial Adderall Holidays might help; these are done pretty often with school-aged kids (for example, taking Timmy off Adderall over the summer). It seems to work for kiddies--it also seems to reduce the growth-hampering effects of the stimulants. My guess would be that something like that would work for adult ADD-ers as well, but your mileage may vary.
A partial reduction might work,too--trying out 20mgs/day, for instance, then working back up.

Do some research on weight and how it affects absorption also.

Med, one of the reasons we moved to Charlotte was to get away from the small town thinking of pdocs. Now I get to test it out see new one here Thursday. Fondly, Phillipa

I agree with med, dosages vary a lot. Maybe it's time to use something else since you've built up a tolerance. A diff. ADD med?
