Lexapro to Effexor? Need Help

Posted by Cramer on December 9, 2005, at 7:03:43

Hi everyone!

I’ve been treating my conditions, Dysthymia, GAD, Social Anxiety and CFS for a long time. Have tried a couple different meds: Paxil, Elavil, Wellbutrin Remeron, and Prozac.
Prozac 60mg/day in combination with Xanax have been working great for the depression and the anxieties as well but not fully recovered felt lack of energy most of the day and not much motivation, but could handle it. Also use Tegretol 400mg for seizure control, which has been done the job
By the end of October, don’t know what happened for sure yet, Prozac, actually generic Fluoxetine stopped working suddenly, felt terrible. Real cold turkey.
I still think that this whole thing happened due to the quality of the generic. I’ve been taking this stuff for three years and some of the side effects keep even on the long term, for me at least. But with this generic, some days I felt the side effects for a day, I would say and then for several days straight felt nothing at all. As if nothing was on my system.
Anyway, got very bad, depressed again, oversleeping, lack of appetite, extremely anxious, lost 10 Lbs.
Went to my doctor and explained the situation and asked if Fluoxetine stopped working or was the quality of the product I was using.
He promptly prescribed me Lexapro 10mg at bedtime. He told me it was a good switch once I have history of seizure, but controlled now, and Fluoxetine was not good in this situations.
I see very good reviews on Lexapro through the web, but sincerely, I don’t think will be that good for me. It has been a month on it and I’ve realized it won’t do the job.
The question that I have is, considering all my conditions, Effexor would be a good choice?
Other question, what dosage of Venlafaxine would be equivalent of 60mg of Prozac?
In addition I want to have some benefit from noreprinephrine with Effexor.

Please, help me!!

Thank you very much.

I was on prozac (fluxatene) for 10 years. It was awsome. It just stopped working.

I went to cymbalta and it caused severe joint pain. I then went to lexapro for a month then zoloft for a week. The anxiety got so bad I swithced back to lexapro. It was bad, bad, bad.
The axiety was so bad - I have not been to work in a week. Yesterday I started on effexor and buspar. I still have some anxiety, but I am not feeling like I will lose it. Yesterday and during the week, I wanted to be committed or something.

I pray that you find what works. I am scared of lexapro though.

Best wishes,
lynn

Lexapro is the same thing as Celexa, wit one isomer removed.

Talking of fear, Effexor was one bad medication for me, and Lexapro has worked the best.

I guess we are all different.

i also wanted to tell you that i have been pretty good on effexor as far as overall depression but the anxiety has been increasing lately. i'm not sure i'm seeing the connection with the meds though. i've been on it for 9 months and the anxiety has only kicked up in the last 2.
