In addition to 550mg of clozaril, I'm taking 10 mg of Zyprexa which ( I think ) my pdoc said he'd wean me off.
I've been on the Zyprexa for months and I've noticed I've gain weight. If I quit my Zyprexa ( with my doctors permission or otherwise ) would I lose the weight that I gained while on the Zyprexa?
thanks,
lostforwards

Lost you sound so much better now. Do you think quitting would be wise? Fondly, Phillipa

hi! you might or might not lose the weight you gained on zyprexa...clozaril can also cause weight gain and make it harder to lose weight. But..you'll probably be less sedated, which is always a good thing. Adding something like metformin (glucophage, glucophage XR) or amantidine might help. Metformin can help treat the metabolic weirdness caused by antipsychotics. Amantidine also seems to be able to help counteract weight gain, but the mechanism by which it does this is kind of unclear.
What changes would you like to see in your therapy? If you drop the zyprexa, does your doc plan to up the clozaril? Anyway, I'm glad your treatment seems to be going well (except for the weight gain)...please keep us all posted.
Good luck!
