Adderall dosage!

Posted by snapper on November 22, 2005, at 2:37:42

Ok, so I'll try to make this post short and sweet. I got a short term script for Adderall. from my GP for ..15 mg. bid until I get my pdoc to send or write a letter to my gp that I need Adderall...till I can see the pdoc. He started me with 15 mg bid till i see the pdoc. In the past I was rx'ed 20mg tid. I am taking extra doses for Atypical depresssiogenic depression and low motivation , fatigue and etc. Because of my supposed mixed states, My pdoc(s) do not want to RX me the Adderall. so I got a very nice but controlled repreive from my Gp at 15 mg bid. I am hoping for my pdoc or pdocs to see things my way at 20mg T.I.D. Yes, I have been taking 15 mg anywhere from 15mg bid to 15 mg 4 x per day to help my symtoms. MY GP was going to reluctantly RX me 15 MG of Adderall XR QD..... and past experience has helped me figure out this prep of this med...in my body is metabolized to quickly so I did get the GP to RX me 15 MG of Reg. Adderall bid til I can get back to my pdocs. In any bodys;' opinion, what do you all consider a good dosage of the standard version of Adderall for effective symptom management of the aforemntioned symptoms! I do know everyone is different. But he said 20 mg tid is a whopped of a dose ..So lucky enough to get him to write the RX for 1 to 2 months at 15mg -bid I said cool. BTW I am 38 and weigh around 230-240-lbs. I just beleive that I am dosing more than needing because I am not responding to 15mg bid. I am not abusing it, but it does help me with the mentioned symtoms . Just some feed back would be great . thanks.!
btw I am on FXR 300mg qd. 100mg metoprolol (for hypertension) which could be directly related to my high anxiety , and .5mg of Klonopin tid and 600mg of Tri-leptal --bid and some othe non-psych meds. Like I said just need some input into what to say to doc and or pdoc in the near future ..I just really belive I do not respond well to the current dose schedule cuz of my Gp's cautious dose RX!
Thanks again- any and all replies will be appreciated an dmaybe get you a free holiday ham or turkey!! (jk!) lol--:)

hey! 60mgs/adderall--what I think you're aiming for--is a bit high. Some docs don't like going that high *at all*, so be aware of that. I don't think you should focus on changing your docs mind so much as you should focus on getting adequate treatment--if you feel that your problems (specifically, the ones that adderall is rx'd to help) aren't being treated adequately, say so. Your doc could...up the adderall, add something (ritalin, provigil, etc.), switch you to something else (provigil, dexedrine, desoxyn), etc. If you still can't get your problems under control with your current doc, you might need to find another psychiatrist, or work with a psychologist to get your thought processes more in line. Good luck!

> hey Med.thanks for the reply. I am very treament resistant. I have been on virtually everything. I know docs and pdocs are relcutsnt, but am I supposed to live a life of misery. I want to be un-depressed, motivated ,and not pack on another 20 to 40 lbs..I understand what you are saying but I gotta tell you, I am not looking for Adderall t9 solve all my problems . just to address some of my symptomology better than it is . I have been on ove 60 meds and had 33 ECT treatments in the past and yes I am looking at a psychologist to help me with the anxiety. it just seems like a dead end every way I turn!

hey! OK..I think I misunderstood the situation. A *good* shrink should probably recognize the severity of the situation and go up on the Adderall...I mean, I took Adderall for similar stuff (ADHD+treatment-resistant depression, possibly of the bipolar type) and I was given 60mgs/day..I was 20 at the time, and I've never done ECT. A GP, though, isn't likely to want to go that route; they might write adderall rx's for adhd, but they aren't big on doing the more "experimental" side of psychopharmacology...you'll need a psychiatrist to do the RXing for that.

Sorry about your situation. Sucks, doesn't it? I hope this works out for you. If you can't get up on the Adderall, you may want to consider switching to or adding Provigil. Also, if you have high-blood pressure already, Desoxyn might be a good alternative (if your shrink is up for it). I say that just b/c Desoxyn uses lower doses, so there are usually fewer side effects. Good luck!

Certainly there are lower doses used in Desoxyn-but this stuff is methamphetamine, the current scurge of society, so i'd be inclined to think again.

15mgs Adderall 2x daily is NOT excessive. I'v recently read of a patient who takes 3, 20mgs XR caps of Adderall 4x daily=240mgs Adderall. Yes i know a huge amount, but HE claimes he metabolises meds quickly, and this has been verified by his professional caregivers,. from 5mgs Adderall-240mgs-daily there is certainly a LARGE varation between patients and their responses-no?

Cheers

hey all--
is 1mg of adderall equivalent to 1mg of dexedrine? i'm rx'd 15mg of dexedrine 3x a day, and i'm just wondering whether it's the same dosage as it would be in adderall. thanks, cb
