Good golly...can an extra 10 mg of Celexa do that? I was on 50 mg for the longest time and I was still pretty volatile. I think it's the Risperdal.
Can Risperdal numb emotions?
Hmmm...sorry about all the meds questions, guess I picked the wrong forum to post this in.

Deneb, Celexa is an antidepressant an SSRI and they do cause apathy. And your stick man almost looks like the one I drew for justyourlaugh. I noticed your picture right away . Dr. Bob really likes you! Fondly, Phillipa

I can't say that it has number my emotions- I CAN say that it has numbed my reactions... which for me is a REALLY good thing!!!
Instead of reacting (read, overreacting)I now get a chance to think about the situation before reacting.... Just what my doctor ordered! Works great for me.

yup. The SSRIs are pretty notorious for inducing apathy and dampening/numbing emotions. The antipsychotics probably have an even worse reputation for doing this. The situation is a little bit better with the newer atypicals, particularly at smaller doses...the potential is there to hit "the sweet spot," where instead of *numbing* emotions you instead allow for more *thought* and *reflection*..thats one reason docs use them in BP disorders characterized by lots of impulsiveness and the like. Still, they can definitely numb you out, so be aware of that.
Have you tried an anticonvulsant-style mood-stabilizer? Trileptal and the others could offer more control over your emotions w/o the weird side effects antipsychotics can have (hormonal side effects, tardive dyskinesia, etc.) My personal faves from these would be lamictal, trileptal, and keppra, but your mileage may vary.
Good luck!

Hi,
APs can numb emotions but at low doses I think they can sometimes have the opposite effect in people who are numb to begin with.

All the anti-psychotics numb emotions.

Nope, never been on any other other than Zoloft and Celexa and now Risperdal.
>Trileptal and the others could offer more control over your emotions w/o the weird side effects antipsychotics can have (hormonal side effects, tardive dyskinesia, etc.)
So far I don't experience any side effects from my meds. Any "side effects" I experienced or thought I experienced are gone now. It's really weird. My Mom is very sensitive to meds and I'm not sensitive at all.
I think it is good to keep my emotions under control, but it is not good to experience apathy. I don't really know whether or not the Risperdal or Celexa does anything. I just know I haven't really freaked out in about a month now and that's a really long time for me.
I see my p-doc tomorrow and it's gonna be another boring session. Nothing bad or exciting happened. Everything is just fine.
