Oh how I wish I could find one! This has become my life's quest. I'm starting to think that he's the only doctor who could have figured me out. I've been emailing doctors all over the country to no avail. I did find this guy:

http://www.spineuniverse.com/displayarticle.php/article1614.html

He's in California. He's a psychiatrist and an anesthesiologist that specializes in treating people with chronic pain. If you check out his article you can see that he seems to be touching on a lot of the same ideas as Dr. Goldstein. I emailed him to see if he could recomend anyone on the East coast but he couldn't. I also asked him if he was familiar with Dr. Goldstein who was located in the same area but he didn't respond. I'm sure he is familiar with Dr. Goldstein but you know how these guys are with their egos. For now I'm just going to have to use his book and follow my instincts. Of course I'll need a local doctor to prescribe me some of the meds. But there are some that they simply won't prescribe under any circumstances. It's all so very frustrating...

whew. i'm starting to feel that i'm completely alone on this. :(

i want to find more reading material from him or of his methods... i have the most recent book of his. but some medications that have been becoming more popular (like verapamil and nimotop) aren't discussed in as much detail as neurotin or ketamine.

anyways thank you for responding, my problems largely focus on fatigue apathy and emotional and attentional salience (relating to his theories) as opposed to chonic pain, but i dp have extreme difficulty tolerating pain or exertion.

(sorry my title is all in caps, i just want to make another main question without making a new topic but still make it noticable. probably stupid, but im an *sshole right now)

So what would the doctor recommend for osteoarthritis? But my pdoc thinks anxiety is causing my back pain which interfers with my ability to lift, run and all types of things. Fondly, Phillipa

he has an interesting theory that the brain and nervous system is taking in too MUCH stimulation in a certain way which is causing either or both pain and fatigue, and that sounds a lot like how anxiety functions too.

he likes drugs that lower glutamate, like neurontin and lamictal somewhat... but also calcium channel blockers now it seems.

Hi,

> whew. i'm starting to feel that i'm completely alone on this. :(

I know the feeling. But take some comfort in the fact that there's at least one other walking disaster out there who's in the same boat. (That would be me.)

> i want to find more reading material from him or of his methods... i have the most recent book of his. but some medications that have been becoming more popular (like verapamil and nimotop) aren't discussed in as much detail as neurotin or ketamine.

Dr. Goldstein is a genius when it comes to the brain and "neurosomatic" disorders but he is a lousy writer. He starts out a chapter talking about one med and by the end of it he's onto a completely different subject and I'm like, "Wha...? What the heck just happened?" But he's done more for me by writing that book than all of the schmuck doctors that I've seen put together. I hope his next book comes out soon. It's supposed to be all case studies from his years in practice.

> Anyways thank you for responding, my problems largely focus on fatigue apathy and emotional and attentional salience (relating to his theories) as opposed to chonic pain, but i dp have extreme difficulty tolerating pain or exertion.

Believe me, fatigue, apathy, anhedonia, lack of motivation...they're all huge problems for me. The neuropathic pain is just another part of the whole spectrum that is my neurosomatic disorder.

Don't worry about it. If i don't get some relief soon i fear i may turn into a permanent *sshole...

Paul
