How does klonopin differ from other benzos for SP?

Posted by quiet_one on October 23, 2005, at 6:16:20

I have heard that clonazepam is the best benzo for treating social phobia? But why is this? How is it really any different from diazepam, temazepam, oxazepam etc? Don't they all pretty much do the same thing - sedate?

From my experience on other benzo's, all ive found they really do is sedate/calm me, they don't make me less shy around people, so how would clonazepam be any different for social phobia? Is there any difference?

I don't know about other benzos, but clonazepam does not produce its anti-SP effects through sedation.

Clonazepam has been the benzo most extensively investigated for social phobia. Some on this board claim that it is no different than other benzos in reducing social phobia. I don't know about this, as clonazepam is the only benzo I have ever tried, but I suspect that clonazepam may be differentially effective in SP, perhaps through effects on serotonin or some other neurotransmitter.

Clonazepam does not reduce shyness. Shyness and social phobia are distinct. But the terror at being in the vicinity of people has abated somewhat.

There is a message board called remedy find. You can google it. I think that under social phobia, Klonopin is first and Xanax is second.

I would not think that all benzos act the same.

Hi quiet_one

The big difference for me between clonazapam and diazepam was that I could get more anxiolytic effect relative to sedation from the clonazepam. That did mean I ended up on a higher dose than I would have with the diazepam and I suspect that made it harder to come off.
