Anyone taking lithium, abilify and topomax? I have been switching pdoc like underwear lately, and this is the new combo (including lexapro). I'm curious if anyone has had any luck with the three together as mood stabilizers.
Thanks!
lithium 1800 mg
abilify 15 mg
topomax 50 mg
lexapro 10 mg

hi there-- i've taken all the meds above, but not altogether. right now, i'm taking abilify 20mg and topomax 300mg, plus a lot of other stuff. i can definitely sympathize with being overmedicated. what do you think of abilify and topomax together? do you think they make for an effective mood stabilizer togehter? at least you have lithium on the board, too, which, for me, anyway, worked like a real mood stabilizer. i'm not able to take it, anyway, which is why i'm on things like abilify and topamax. i'd be interested to hear how it's working for you. cb

Care Bear;
I HATE THE COMBO, but I am in a state program, so there is a waiting period of one week to get new meds. I have been running a constant fever with the Abilify, and since I dropped the Seroquel, my muscles have been stiff which makes me really tense and uncomfortable. The Topomax has a definate cognative numbing or brain fog. I'm tripping over my words. It's only been a week on the Topomax, so I want to give it more of a chance, but the Abilify has to go. I can't sleep at all. I've been popping Benedryll to help with that since the new pdoc only has me on Trazodone. Back on the cocktail wagon for me. SO frustrating - it has been almost two years!
Hope you are well.

Prodgirl,
I'm so sorry to hear you're in such bad shape. I'm not fond of the meds I'm on either, but the doctor has more faith in them than I do, so I'm still on them. I was disappointed-- I saw him on Friday, and I was so hoping he would take me off of Abilify and TOpomax and put me on something else, but he kept me on them, and I don't see him again for another month. I hate them, I hate them. And I don't have nearly as bad side effects from them as you do. I feel so bad for you. WHen do you think you'll be able to switch. and do you have any idea what you'll be switching to? What have you tried already? I'll be thinking of you and wishing you good thoughts. CB

I'm bipolar, and tried a good deal of stuff. Lamictal by itself didn't work. Neurotin. Seroquel. A ton of antidepressants. I think that when I finally see my new pdoc (I have an appt next Wed) or if they actually call me, we talked about adding Depokote, but I may suggest adding Lamictal to the Lithium. I like Lithium, which most people don't, and I know people have had luck with the L&L combo.
Good luck to you too! It's not fun when we sit and wait for meds to work. Did your pdoc change your dosage this appt? If not and you aren't happy in another two weeks, think about calling. It's not worth the wait when you've been waiting. Move on to something else or another doseage.
Hope you are feeling better!
