Posted by junglebookmom on September 17, 2005, at 7:58:50

Hello all.
I'm on day 3 of effexor starts off at 37.5mg for 7 days then ups to 75mg a day. I'm on it for postpartem depression with pre existing anxtity dissorder and a family history of depression. I feel good no side effects except yawning all day and my jaw hurts.

Question:
What dose did you start at and what dose are you on now?
How soon did they up your meds and why?
Anyone on them have kids they care for and has it effected that?
Why are all our side effects sooo different?
And last anyone come off them with out a bad withdrawel?

ps:I spell worth crap!! Sorry

ok, i hope i answer them all ; )
>i too started at 37.5 and now take 225mg daily
>my doc upped my dose to 75 within a week as the 37.5 was to allow my body to adjust
>i have a just turned 10 month old baby boy that i stay home w/ and it does not affect my care for him at all
>s/e are different b/c everyones body chemistry is different. how i react to a med. may be opposite of how u cld. react.
>i quit effexor xr cold and had NO bad effects but i was one of few. it is usually not rec. that u ever stop any med. cold unless a doc. has instructed differently.

hey! i think i got them all..lol
welcome and feel free to ask anything. thats why we're here!

Welcome to Pbabble. And there is a lot of information on effexor. There is a google at the bottom of the page and just type in effexor and a lot of posts will show up. If your concerned about withdrawal there is always info on the withdrawal board. And yes, the meds effect everyone differently. Fondly, Phillipa

Hello junglebookmom!

Welcome to club babble. It's sort of like Club Med, without a vacation or luxuries! ROFL!!!

Effexor has definitely improved my ability to care for my children and cope with life in general. My husband certainly loves what it's done for me. Depression is horrible! Drugs are good! ;~}

I take 225mgs. a day, don't remember where I started because one of the side effects is that your short term memory evaporates... I did have to take some Ambien for a while with it to get any sleep at all, but I don't think I would feel comfortable doing that with a new-born. Since you're probably not sleeping anyway (one of the many joys of parenthood!), it shouldn't be a problem for you.

You'll be able to tell if you need more. You will also be able to tell if you're on too much. Your body will tell you if you listen to it.

From what I experienced, withdrawl for it is pretty nasty. From reading the boards, most others agree. I can tell if I've forgotten to take it within about 12 hours. I hope that doesn't scare you off it. I have tried other anti-depressants and this one has been the best for me so far.

Best of luck toyou and your baby!

crazy teresa
