I want to try and get back on nardil, but the doc might say no. What should I ask for if she says no? I'm already on klonopin. I don't want any kind of ssri or snri type meds.
I don't know.
an anti-convulsant
an anti-psychotic
wellbutrin?
What?

The doctor that prescribed nardil is a pdoc at southern illinois university. I am the first patient that she has prescribed nardil to in years. She diagnosed me with social anxiety, GAD, and depression. I think the trick is to show that you know about the dangers of maoi's, have a long list of meds you've tried before, and make sure they understand that your illiness is seriously effecting your quality of life.

have u considered effexor xr? my dx is severe depressive d/o,social anxiety and PTSD and it has helped better than any of the SSRI's. it does cause an edgy feeling so i take the klonopin w/ it. meds. do react differently to everyone so it's worth asking about, researching and possibly trying. wellbutrin has worked well for a lot of people that didnt respond well to SSRI's also.

I would think that having been on it before should encourage your new pdoc to prescribe it. Perhaps you could ask your new pdoc to talk to your old one. To help convice new pdoc that you really improved on it and could handle the responsibility of taking such a dangerous drug.
Another option might be a tricyclic antidepressant, like desipramine. Have you tried one of them before. Often they can be good for anxiety and depression.
Let us know how it goes.
Best,
EE

You've tried it before and it worked. You know all the precautions with food and other drugs. And you have dealt with the side effects in the past, or you didn't get them.
Something like that?

I'm going back on nardil. Before, the doc only wanted me to go to 45 mg that is why I stopped. Now she is going to let me try 60 and go up to 90 if needed.

So tell me what 45 was like, with both therapeutic and side effects. If you've done this before, apologies in advance, but I am curious about a viable long term dose for Nardil.

I don't have any answers for you. I just find it so sad that we have to come on to this site and ask others what med WE should request. It says alot about psychiatry.
Wishing you the best.
