Has anyone tried dxm for depression? I heard it is very good, and in high doses can produce effects similar to the dissociative ketamine.
Has anyone taken it in high doses for it's recreational effects€€? I am afraid to take it because of the possibility of dying from other active ingrediants. The only cough syrup i could find with ONLY dextromethorphan is benylin. All of the others contain other stuff that can kill you like guaifenesin. SO is benylin the only safe one to use? And There is also possible interaction with antidepressants like maois. Can you take dxm with an ssri like paxil?
I've read a few stories about people using dxm on this site so if you know anything please reply.

I have a bottle of it in my cabinet for my oldest son (from a chronic cough he had last winter).
It can kill you??

Just read the erowid vault and other sites. I've never tried it and it is extremely dangerous on its own beyond the recommended dose for Robitussin.

Huh? Guaifenesin is nearly harmless, you haven't done your research if you're planning on something as dangerous as what you propose. I think the LD50 is like a gallon. You are probably referring to mixtures with pseudoephedrine, which like ephedrine has a dangerous epinephrine like potential at higher dosesAnd There is also possible interaction with antidepressants like maois.
Yes.

In its recommended dose for an occasional bad cough, most likely yes.

I took some for recreational reasons. No good of course.

I've tried DXM, a moderate dose, for recreation...it wasn't a pleasant experience. I made sure there was only DXM.
Guaifenesin can make you puke your guts out. Make sure there is no acetaminophen, or antihistamines. Never take with an MAOI.
Nothing really horrible happened to me while I took it and was on Celexa at the same time, but this may not be true for you.
I really don't recommend it. It's not fun.

The quintessential DXM resource is the "THE DEXTROMETHORPHAN FAQ" by William White.
THE DEXTROMETHORPHAN FAQ
http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/dxm/faq/detailed info on chemical structure, mechanism of action, potential interactons with other medications and/or recreational drugs, dosage levels, subjective descriptions of effects, potential adverse reactions, much more.

I took what I expected to be ecstacy while holidaying in Sydney about 6 years ago. I'm a Melbourne boy and was warned about the crap quality of pills in Sydney. It either contained DXM or Special K, but I had had K before and it didn't do this to me. I had people in the club telling me that they were going to kill me then my friends kept coming up to me saying who are you talking to, stop talking to the air or we will get kicked out, so I ran through the streets of Sydney lost for 6 hours being chased by ASIO (FBI-CIA for people in the US) spies aiming red lazer beems on my chest. Climbing trees and hiding in bushes. None of it was really happening . I was just a mess, it took me nearly a week to get over it. I'm tipping it was DXM and if it was don't go there!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I suppose I'll never know for sure

Ah ... Sydney. 12 years ago I was there for a couple of days at the same time as teh annual Mardi Gras. I went with a a couple of old friends who had arranged an assortmemnt of recreational substances. I happily danced till 10.00am on MDA and LSD, strolled back to Taylor Square, and then was panicked to realize that I had forgotten
(1) how to get to NewTown
(2) How to speakI walked up to a yound woman, who smiled, and I said "Ah a a aaa ah"
"Are you you OK, mate?"
"a aa aaa ah a"I ran off.
After sleeping fro 12 hours I felt depressed and wrung out for a few days.
Life's better clean and sober but the silly stories from the past are priceless.
