ativan vs xanax

Posted by waterfall on September 11, 2005, at 18:45:38

I used Ativan off and on for ten years and then was away from it for a year and a half. Well, now I'm back to using it sparingly for anxiety and it's making me much slower than I remember. On 1/2 mg in a day I feel disconnected, forget simple things, can't concentrate well enough to do schoolwork or Web design (my job). I don't remember it affecting me this strongly, but then again, I was also on Klonipin daily during that time so I was slower in general. Can anyone who has taken both ativan and xanax speak to whether you feel sharper on xanax?

oh, and not to sound totally ungrateful, yes, my skin isn't crawling so i can get out of bed in the morning to at least go to work and do paperwork even if i'm not performing at peak. so, its better than nothing on the days i wouldn't be able to go in

I've used all three; Klonopin, Ativan, and Xanex.

Xanex was the most helpful for anxiety (and stopped panic attacks full force) BUT I couldn't even cut a .25 in half without falling asleep.

Mind you, I'd rather be sleepy than running around screaming that I'm suffocating and going to die. ROFL

However, Klonopin made me feel "sick." I felt like I had the flu when I would take it. It made my head feel "heavy" if that makes any sense.

Ativan on my first dose actually caused me to have a panic attack ( go figure?) but I think they gave just gave me waaay too high a dose and the initial feeling of floating away scared me. ROFL

When I was in the hospital, I was on Ativan and it helped a lot with the akathasia I experienced on Lexapro. After I left the hospital, I never took it again.

Did that answer your question? lol

Ok,

I have been on Ativan 6mg daily before, when i had severe panic attacks. Lorazepam did not help much, it would dull it out but not make it go away.

I never taken Xanax (alprazolam) but at low it does create stimulus effect at .25mg (there is evidence on a government abstract) That is maybe why you feel sharper. It is similar to alcohol, stimulating at small amounts.

I take 5mg of Clonazepam daily. I know, but i doesnt make me any diffrent, it just brings some relief to my life, and disturbing thoughts that i have sometimes.

I do also take Zyprexa.

I dont know if this helped you but to the best....

Matt

I've also used all three; Klonopin, Ativan, and Xanex.

The Klonopin and Ativan make me very tired and I felt unable to concentrate.

I love the xanex. It calms my anxiety and leaves me with the ability to still think straight.

Hope this helps :-)

Good luck stanger friend...

I've also taken all three. At first xanax worked like a charm. After a few years it made me tired. When I took ativan it really worked for me but that was up to 6mg. And I haven't taken it in years. Klonopin I didn't like it made me feel dull. Now I'm still on valium l5mg at night and I think it helps. Fondly, Phillipa
