C T SCAN?

Posted by pretty_paints on September 10, 2005, at 9:53:40

Hi,

I got a letter through the post this morning saying I have to have a CT scan. What is this and why am I having one, does anyone know? I have since changed docs after leaving hospital. My old doctor referred me it says on the letter. So why is she referring me? Maybe she referred me while I was still her patient, and that was a while ago.

Anyway any info would be appreciated! I already had an EEG a while back, but haven't had any results from that yet.

Thanks for your help.

Kate xx

Hi Katie!

Your doctor wants to rule out 'medical' causes of psychosis before making the diagnosis of schizophrenia.

How are you doing atm?

Love ed x

I have been *supposed* to get a CT scan for 2 years now but havnt. The main reason for mine is b/c of severe migraines though. I have at least 4 a week. I know i take way too much Excedrin and when i cannot function, i have demerol(sp) on hand but the thought of what they might find tends to keep me from going through w/ it. I wld. just call and ask. U have every right to know and there are so many possibilities. Take care.

Wildcard, maybe your harmones are crazy. You and I both have a history of miscarraiges. I am not sure, but I think when harmones are out of wack, it may cause headaches.

I have had at least 2 CT scans.

I noticed that you mentioned that you have OCD too. My problem is not that I clean my house too much. I tend to worry about health issues too much. Hypochondriac

Prettypants, they are probably just trying to cover their buttocks. What other symptoms are you having?

I would agree. I would also say an MRI is probably slightly more reliable but more expensive. I finally got one after pushing for one because of a really nasty somatiform disorder I still suffer from -- to rule out what doctors call "organic"... i.e. -- well I dont want to over worry you, but tumors and other non psychiatric conditions.

Hey Katie

Its always good to hear from you

An MRI would seem to make more sence for any "brain" problems than a CT, although I'm no expert.

I actually work as a hospital porter, a lot of my work revolves around taking patients to and from CT scans and MRIs : )

If you have any questions I will attempt to answer from my limited knowlage and experience.
