How long before the effexor kicks in???

Posted by mellymel_d on August 25, 2005, at 11:47:56

I'm on 10mg of lexapro & I've been on 37.50 effexor for 2 weeks and the doc just upped effexor to 75mg for 3 days. When can I expect to feel any results? I'm so depressed and feel hopeless. My anxiety is settled a bit but the depression is BAD? I'm just wondering if this is supposed to work yet?

I noticed a distinct positive change in my mood within the first week, but I wasn't taking anything else with it. We are all different though, so I would give it at least two weeks.

Good luck!

Colleen

When I first started on Effexor I noticed a distinct difference within about 10 days. I switched to it from Prozac though. I noticed I slept better and had less pain and much less anxiety within just a week or two. I don't know about the depression aspect - since I switched directly from Prozac to Effexor, I never dropped back down into deep depression.

Hope this helps a little.

thank you coleen and 4wd- today is day 5 or 6 i think? and still no difference so I'm just praying it'll kick in soon. I feel so depressed and have so much going on in my life right now I feel like I can't possibly handle it all but I know I have to try for my family. My daughter is starting kindergarten & my son is stating 6th grade monday, along with the rest of our hectic schedules this is becoming unbearable. i'm trying to hang in there but a little reassurance that it'll be better soon helps. Thank you.

Hi.

Yes, I had a problem taking Vicoden with meds. However, I did not take it as prescribed. I took more than prescribed, recreationally. Once or twice a month. It made my depression much worse when I took it (not while I was on it and high but for several days afterwards). I think the Soma could contribute to depression as well. All muscle relaxers make me somewhat depressed, even when taken as prescribed or less. Narcotics made me feel great while I was on them but I can't tell you how miserable I would be for days afterward. I would take maybe 7- 8 10mg Vicoden in a day. And then not again for a couple of weeks. It really messed me up.

I didn't experience any drug interaction problems.

Have you looked at any other methods of dealing with the pain? Like physical therapy or a TENS unit? Those may not be enough if you are in severe pain but for a depressed person, it's probably better not to use CNS depressants any more than necessary.

My AD's during this time were (at different times) Effexor, Cymbalta and Celexa.

Hope this helps a little.

Marsha
